Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Is there a proper way to use several DE's on one distro or is it not advised? (lemmy.ml)

I have read many conflicting things, like always. Just wondering if there's a safe way to use several DE's on one distro without messing up my damn computer lol I've tried it several times and it always messed things up. I'm currently brand new to fedora workstation 38 too btw. Thanks alot

on top? the other DE goes to new directories in the system. if your system comes with a display manager (e.g. gdm, lihgtdm) you can select the session during login. for example, in gdm and lightdm there will usually be a gear icon, opening a session type menu of DEs, Wayland compositors and X window managers. The choice should be automatically remembered per user. It's similar with other display managers (SDDM etc).
