The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians’ taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that. The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World — And your brilliant anthem, “O Canada,” will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!

He really doesn't seem to comprehend the consequences of that "51st state" garbage. It's doing a great job pissing off Canadians, inspiring patriotism and unifying them.

The very same Canadians who constitute a decent slice of our tourism. The ones who import our agriculture and goods, and are now preferring to buy local voluntarily. They forgot/forgave the economic strong-arming bullshit from his last run, but they're not going to forget the relentless threats of being annexed.

He wants to start a war he thinks he can win. He does know the consequence. That's why security around Mara Lago is so much higher this time. It's still a security nightmare, but they're trying.

The only way Trump's actions make any consistent sense as all is as an attempt to ruin the USA and its allies for the benefit of Vladimir Putin. There's just no other theory that explains all the data points.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah. If it was just dementia, stupidity, and narcissism, it wouldn't benefit Putin almost 100% of the time.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Being quite dim and narcissistic, Trump may not be aware that he's consistently doing Putin's bidding. If Russia can get intermediaries to put the right words in Trump's ear, they could play Trump while letting him believe he's just having his own brilliant ideas.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 21 hours ago

Yeah, I don't think Trump is knowingly a Russian asset because it isn't necessary for him to knowingly be a Russian asset. He's just a fanboi and "business partner" of Putin who is vulnerable to his manipulative suggestion, and that's enough.

In this case, I wouldn't be surprised if Putin simply gloated about how Russia was going to benefit from global warming opening up the Northeast Passage and said "you could have the same thing too by controlling the Northwest Passage; too bad Greenland and Canada are in the way," then just let Trump's megalomania take over the rest.

It’s similar to Putin waxing poetic about Ukraine, to a degree.

Now that I think about it, this totally could work with a few minor changes. How aboot y'all become the 11th province of Canada.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

That's cartoon rapist vilain tactic. Yes miss Tinkle, I dammed the creek that was watering your garden, if you just marry me I'll remove it and you will be cherished.

No need to import fentanyl if it's already inside the entire country...
