I hate range extenders with a passion. I've never found a setup that performs as well as having proper wifi coverage.
Ideally, you'd instead run a cable and set up an additional wireless access point (see that other comment for details).
If that's not possible, I'd go Ethernet over Power before I stooped to using a range extender.
As a footnote, the network I have at home didn't cost that much, but it's miles better than anything my ISP provided. I turned off wifi in my ISP router, and connected a PoE switch. To this switch I then connected four Aruba InstandOn AP22. Due to occupational damage, I tend to shy away from consumer-grade networking gear, but I have no regrets regarding this setup. If all goes as planned, I'll replace my shitty ISP tomorrow with a proper rackmounted router.
