The perverse thing is: the more EU goes for wind+solar, the more they rely on (L)NG, for balancing the grid.
The unpredictability and intermittency of clouds and wind, and the nuclearphobia, means gas gets more and more important to avoid black- and grayouts.
As an EE student it absolutely blows my mind how nuclear energy hasn't become more prevalant when even with all disasters considered nuclear is still safer per unit of energy
Some people use system thinking, others use anthropomorphic thinking. Preferring "the bad we know" is part of the latter, and more popular :)
