I know Plex gets a lot of crap here, but they have done me no wrong allowing me to simply play the music I like. Spotify is ruining artist discovery, which is exactly how radio became the shithole it is now. At least Pandora leads at artist discovery.
You can just use Jellyfin which is open source.
Plex (or equivalent) pairs great with Bandcamp where you can download the music you buy in lossless quality.
For now. Sounds like maybe Bandcamp might not be around much longer.
So it seems. Thanks Epic!!!
How is Spotify ruining discovery? Imo they're absolutely crushing it, I've been loving their new DJ feature, used it exclusively on a four our car ride and the mix was awesome, and found a couple new bands. My only complaint is that their recent redesign and navigation patterns are a step down.
Or do you mean in terms of the free plan?
How expensive are albums typically? I'm kinda under the impression with the amount I just listen to random shit that gets recommended that wouldn't work for me
Sucks that Pandora left Australia with their "pick a song and we will create a radio station based on it". I used to use that all the time. I even would've considered starting a subscription if it hadn'tve withdrawn from the country when I started getting income.
Wait, what did I miss about Plex? Any search terms I should look into?
Where? All I do is see people shilling plex as a replacement for streaming services without mentioning you have to buy the fucking content to put on the server.
You know that's not how people are filling their servers, right? Plex is a way to manage and stream your pirated media collection, though Plex will never admit that.
So... it's good advice to the streaming crowd who is inherently tech-illiterate to not only recommend they set up a fucking server, but also get a VPN?
Jeez. Just recommend them a free streaming site at that point.
But the 🧩's among you won't accept that.
