Here's hoping they post the full interview, no edits, and that Biden hits it out of the park.
If it's the same stumbling, incoherent presentation from the debate, he's done. He has to pull this off.
I'll be honest, I don't think I'd be fully convinced even if he does well. Why? Because Biden ran on taking the fight to Trump. He campaigned on using his Irish fighting spirit to push the bully back and anything but that has happened.
Moreover this won't be seen by a fraction of the number of people who saw that debate. Little said here can detract from what people saw of Biden's "bad days" during that debate.
I wish him luck because I want to be convinced he's our best shot, but it's going to take more than one good interview, personally.
Biden ran on a return to sensibility, bipartisan dialogue and functional government. That's the opposite of "taking the fight" to anyone. He didn't start acting aggressive in the slightest until the last State of the Union.
He even went out of his way to sound calm most of the time.
Quotes from post 2019 Trump vs. Biden debate:
Let's not forget in Biden's own words, he decided to run for President following Trump's words over the neo-nazi rally in Charlottesville.
Pretty tame stuff really. Video would also show he spoke pretty softly and soothingly during that debate if memory serves. I watched it live.
There is no reason to suspect they will. There is a reason it will be a prerecorded interview. What Biden needs to do is some town halls. If he knows he can't, he should know he needs to step aside.
Sure, and how many voters are expected to read that?
Depends on whether he completely shits the bed at some point. No one actually wants to watch these interviews, they just want them to happen and be reassured by someone not dedicated to supporting Biden that he didn't fall apart.
The more important issue is that one interview is just not enough, no matter how well he does. Holding it together for 15-30 minutes isn't proof he doesn't have semi-regular episodes like the debate, it just shows how capable he is when he's having a good day.
If it is, I wonder what the excuses will be. The excuses for his debate performance were worse than his debate performance.
It'll 100% be edited.
The question is can they edit in such a way that he looks competent.
It's good that they're putting the full transcript up, but these days there's no reason not to put the full interview online. Like Daily Show does when they don't have the airtime for the full interview
Dude, he's already been in public multiple times since the debate. He did a rally, he gave some speeches, and he did a medal of honor ceremony. He was fine in each, and you can watch them completely unedited.
Unless he's caught another cold and is high as balls on cough medicine, he'll be fine.
My dude, you're equating readings from teleprompters and crowd greetings compared to organic conversation and debate.
White House said he wasn't on cold meds for debate.
Colds don't cause you to jump mid-sentence from abortion to immigration. Or to, "finally beat Medicare." Enough copium.
That's a fair critique, but I genuinely do think the debate performance was a one-off, a shitty confluence of events, and that he's otherwise been fine.
I'll eat crow if the interview is terrible or highly edited, though.
Respect. This is all going to get very interesting for the next week...
Those were highly controlled public appearances. It’s pretty easy to get those done without fucking up. There’s no substitute for us seeing him in a completely unscripted and natural setting, and he has consistently done pretty badly in those types of situations lately. When someone his age starts to decline, it can happen really fast. He’s not to blame for that, it’s just human, we get old and lose our abilities. He is to blame for thinking he’s fit for another four years of one of the most stressful jobs in the world.
I want you to be right, I really do, but I’m not sure where you’re getting your confidence.
