What's this about basic email?

That's the HTML-only Gmail view. Now you can only use the JavaScript enabled version on web.

I'm guessing that was a "better to track and monetize you" decision, on their part. Glad I moved to Proton. If you don't pay for it, you're not a customer. I got tired of being Google's product.
