Hell, I remember during Trump's term they basically waxed a protestor as he was going to work. My guess is McDonald's didn't want the bad press of a shooting on their property.

And a functioning state government. California actually has some decent unemployment insurance, which was nice when I was laid off earlier this year. Got a job now that's even better, so there's that as well.
