For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we’re finally returning to the much-beloved anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s legendary manga, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, with episodes 25 through 30 of the fourth part, Diamond Is Unbreakable. Expect a whole bunch of muscley guys doing silly poses while fighting other muscley guys.

After that is Frankenweenie (2012), Tim Burton’s stop-motion feature about a boy whose dog is hit by a car and dies. He uses the power of science to bring the pup back to life, but uh-oh, he’s a little bit “off” after his resurrection. The once-friendly canine becomes a little hellion, terrorizing family and friends alike. Has the dog become a monster, or is there still a good boy somewhere inside? I guess we’ll find out. We’ll start 8PM EST on Hextube right here:

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we are continuing the much-beloved anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s legendary manga, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, with episodes 19 through 24 of the fourth part, Diamond Is Unbreakable. Expect a whole bunch of muscley guys doing silly poses while fighting other muscley guys.

After that is The Big Fox and Other Tales (2017), a French cartoon anthology featuring three stories, all centering on the wacky adventures of some talking animals in the woods: in the first, a fox thinks he us a chicken; in the second, a rabbit wants to be a stork; and in the third, a duck wants to be Santa Claus. The film’s directors are Patrick Imbert, who did Summit of the Gods (2021), and Benjamin Renner, who did Ernest & Celestine (2012), both of which we have watched. Nice reviews for this one, and its aesthetic looks beautiful, so let’s give it a whirl.

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we’re finally returning to the much-beloved anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s legendary manga, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, with episodes 13 through 18 of the fourth part, Diamond Is Unbreakable. Expect a whole bunch of muscley guys doing silly poses while fighting other muscley guys.

After that is Uzumaki (2024), the much-anticipated animated adaptation of Junji Ito’s much-acclaimed horror manga of the same name. A curse on a Japanese town compels everyone to start becoming obsessed with spirals, which start appearing everywhere in increasingly-gruesome fashion. A girl tries to escape from the town, but she has some difficulties as the townspeople’s collective psychosis grows more extreme. A whole bunch of different directors and studios worked on this, including some of the creative staff behind Mushi-Shi (2005), Trigun (1998), Rent-a-Girlfriend (2020), and Little Witch Academia (2017). Reviews are good. We will watch all four episodes tonight.

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, the people demanded more Sailor Moon, and so, we’re continuing on, with episodes 19 through 24 of the 1992 series, the definitive magical-girl anime. This is the completely unabridged, unexpurgated, uncensored, Japanese version of the show, including everything that the English dub butchered, altered, and/or cut, which is quite a bit. Tonight’s episodes see the conclusion of the Nephrite arc, including his doomed romance with Naru. After that is Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron (2023), since a decent-quality camrip has finally appeared. In this latest highly-acclaimed addition to the filmography of Hayao Miyazaki, a yonng boy loses his mother, and attempts to cope as he deals with his stepmother, who looks just like his mom, and a mysterious talking bird who heckles him. Drama ensues. Great reviews for this one, so we’re giving it a whirl.

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, the people demanded more Sailor Moon, and so, we’re continuing on, with episodes 7 through 12 of the 1992 series, the definitive magical-girl anime. This is the completely unabridged, unexpurgated, uncensored, Japanese version of the show, including everything that the English dub butchered, altered, and/or cut, which is quite a bit. Tonight’s episodes see the downfall of Jadeite and the beginning of the Nephrite arc. After that is French slapstick fairy-tale cartoon The King and the Mockingbird (1952/1980), concerning a bird that uses all of his wits to end the reign of terror of a tyrannical king. It originally released in incomplete form in 1952, and, in that form, was a major influence on the work of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Director Paul Grimault eventually completed it, and the whole film was released in 1980; this is by far his best-known work, and his only feature. It is often considered the best animated French film of all time, so let’s give it a whirl.
