Bloom is a dupe of Tom Ford Black Orchid. Terrific soap base and terrific scent. Bloom is not identified as a spring scent per se, but blooming flowers are associated with spring, and the Orchid (though there are many types) normally blooms in early spring.

  • I'm in!
  • I'm fine with the third Wednesday of the month
  • I tried a sample of Abbate Y L Mantia a long time ago and liked it. Don Josè seems like a great scent, but has menthol. Is there another interesting offering that lacks menthol?

I like the name Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club, btw. I have the Ry Cooder-produced album (Buena Vista Social Club).

I think that this is an excellent idea. To show activities over here that are attractive to the typical r/wetshaving nerd.

It seems fitting to pull out the razor with mammoth ivory scales, again. This time to honor the incredible Cerberus fragrance by House of Mammoth. Awesome shave today.

Hard to believe that it has been a year. Reddit went public during the past year as they continue to serve the stockholders more and their redditors less I think we’ll see more folks from r/wetshaving dropping by.

Since most knives are curved, knife sharpeners thinking nothing about it. But, it does take a while to become comfortable with curvy shapes. I did a video on honing a smiling razor, but I don't think it was very informative. My Koraat 7/8 has a good smile to it, but it was honed in November and that damn steel never gives up an edge ;-). I'll do another smiling edge video if I get a good example. Perhaps @whosgotthepudding can help me find one.

Thank you for watching the video. I hope there was something useful in there for you. The abalone scales on the TI are much more interesting IRL because they change as the light moves. The 7/8 full hollow from TI is excellent. My other TIs are 6/8. I noticed the difference immediately.

  • Lather: Zingari Man - The Master - Soap

  • Post Shave: Thayers - Rose - Toner
  • Fragrance: Floris of London - Jermyn Street - Eau de Toilette

The description of this scent is that it is a a dark and spicy take on a barbershop scent; the Master referring to a master barber. I quite like this scent and really need to use it more. Jermyn Street is a lemon/citrus/green sort of scent. The kind of thing you would expect from a barbershop imo. Wonderful shave today!

The Koraat steel is high hardness and takes a bit longer to take an edge. But, the steel can support a very refined edge.

I agree with this completely. Spiced is more complex and interesting. When you think of Old Spice think about those square rigger ships that were operated in an age where bathing, and even sanitation, were ignored. This is the environment in which Bay Rum was invented and you can bet that strength of scent was far more important than scent balance and complexity. As the ad shows, Old Spice relates more closely to this time than to ours.

"smoke 'em if you got 'em"

Using logic as we (very loosely) apply it here in the states, that phrase actually applies. 😉

God that was good! Surprisingly good lather for a 45 year old soap, and the scent is still there, though weaker. I took extra time wallowing in the goodness of Old Spice, and I presume that u/cowzilla3 would deem this the minimum required time. I have used Shulton Old Spice aftershave for many years. My father used it as well, so it's definitely a nostalgia-fest for me. No. 89 has been around forever too. Its scent blends well with Old Spice and it is also period-correct.

I took Paleontology Day literally and used a razor that has mammoth ivory scales. This relates more to the challenge than to u/Priusaurus.

However, I mostly participate in the Lather Games for the entertainment value of the SOTD comments, and Priusaurus' comments are consistently entertaining, or interesting. He was deserving of the win last year and I'm following his pursuit of it again this year.
