I'm talking from a general user perspective who often can't even differentiate between chipsets let alone look for such details.
People used to got to Custom ROMs because OEMs were really doing shit job, that's not the case now given now.

Honestly, Custom ROMs have been in decline of usage since few years. There are also Other ROMS like Pixel Experience, PixyOS, Havoc, evolutionX, PixelOS, Paranoid, Derpfest, CrDroid and lot more.
The reason for the drop is due to a combination of reasons like better OEM UI, unpublished Kernel code (Chinese OEMs, Mediatek), locked bootloaders and Safetynet issues.
I'm currently rocking CrDroid it has currently ~85K active devices (https://stats.crdroid.net/).
You can also drop ClearURLs filter. Better filters that are more up to date exists exists on uBlock like Adguard URL Tracking Protection and Actually Legitimate URL Shortener Tool.
Yup. I like the std. Material You variant, and it covers most of the apps (6 apps missing)
They have abandoned the app and multitudes of others in favour to their closed source apps. Multiple Open Source apps exists to fill the gaps though.
Adobe and MS Office for me are far bigger reasons for me.
W10 also has Edge bundled as system software.
This. They haven't opened up the RCS stuff till now on Android to other apps.
High time WhatsApp allowed backup to other cloud solutions like Dropbox/OndeDrive/others
I have seen people having WhatsApp Backup of upwards of 5-8 GB
Xiaomi Does albeit with some wait time.
