what about this? https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/467656/To-improve-security-Google-s-making-it-slightly-harder-to-contribute#entry-comment-2442599

Google is not making Android for users, but itself as its advertising platform. Ever wonder why custom ROMs and even other manufacturers have a permission to block internet access for specific apps in their Android forks but Google does not? hmm… Alright

Google isn't looking out for anyone but itself. These kind of restrictions and excuses are exactly what Apple calls "security".

Just off the top of my head, Android allows multiple browser engines to work on it, allowing firefox to use extensions. Android can torrent, while you can't on stock iOS without hacks. Firefox with extensions on Android is god send if you're a power user.

For someone who claims to be a power user, it's really showing… And don't forget open source ecosystem is much much much bigger on Android.

Before that, it was hangouts and regular people didn’t know about it.

This is their biggest problem, They themselves fragment their user base. We were on hangouts, you could even get your google voice calls on it, we didnt' switch to allo or duo, till they announced they were retiring hangouts. And now all three are gone.

We stay away from Google now.

CloudNordic said: “The attackers succeeded in encrypting all servers’ disks, as well as on the primary and secondary backup system, whereby all machines crashed and we lost access to all data

They did. They were affected too, if you read the article.

Why stick to the worse one, though?

Why is mastodon the worse one?

Many people coming from twitter run from the fediverse, because they’re told there’s nothing other than mastodon, which they find hard to use, lacking and extremely toxic.

Why is everyone so adamant that Mastodon should accommodate to users leaving Twitter by being a Twitter clone? It was meant to be federated, privacy friendly, self-hosted, less toxic twitter alternative for small communities , not a clone of Twitter. People act like everyone becomes seasoned to using Twitter or other mainstream social media websites by default and it's mastodon's fault they leave because its not exactly like Twitter. It's pretty straightforward to forget all about the fediverse and rant all day, just like Twitter.

It's one thing to improve UX for users and another thing entirely to specifically chaperone users leaving Twitter, which is not Mastodon's goals.
