Jordan Shanks isn't for everyone and yeah I think he comes across as insensitive at times. I know some of his family members and to put it bluntly Jordan has a lot of room for improvement in his interpersonal skills.

But he's not a piece of shit. Compared to Barilaro, Jordan is an upstanding, moral citizen.

Welcome to Australia's defamation laws. Our whitleblower laws are also quite shit.

I mean this isn't really surprising when there's a policy structure in place that incentivises rent seeking. It's interesting how all of these people are like shocked when they realise neoliberalism isn't that great. Like what's next, realising that Marx bloke might have made a few good points about capitalism.

Cats are one of the most adaptive species on this planet. All of their needs can be met inside. Inside cats in Australia have a better quality of life than a lot of humans do around the world.

Potentially if scientists can find a way to generate the heat and pressure that's needed more efficiently. It has the potential to be more efficient (and assumedly cheaper) than any other energy source. But that's likely still a while away. We definitely need to be investing in this type of research and development rather than building nuclear fission plants though.

It could end up being a situation where wind and solar are needed for the transition to nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission at this point is not worth the cost it would take to set up. And by the time we set it up in Australia, the rest of the world is transitioning to fusion.

"they don’t care wether nuclear is a viable option or not"

Keep voting the best and brightest people in to develop policy Australia.

The government at the very least should have put funding in place to support Indigenous Australians throughout this campaign. For Royal Commissions there will often be grants awarded to mental health / trauma services in order to support people through telling their stories. I think the same consideration should have taken with this campaign because it has become so predictably vile and unhinged. I imagine it's a lot for Indigenous Australians to have to process, regardless of how they're voting.

As a phd student I strongly advice anyone to think very carefully about doing a phd unless you already come from a wealthy position in life. In fact I would actually try to convince someone not to do a PhD. The title means fuck all outside of academia and even if it did that it not a good reason to pursue one.

I grew up in a working class family and am the first person in my family to complete university. My parents put a lot of emphasis on my education because they held it up as being a way to have better career prospects than they did. They spent more than they could afford on sending me to a private school. But they didn't have the skills or education to help me with my studies so I struggled a lot compared to my peers. Being the working class kid at a school with wealthy kids who had more support and resources than I did made it difficult for me to understand why everything felt so much harder for me. Undiagnosed adhd and Autism also didn't help this. Now I'm doing a PhD and it's strange how familiar the feeling of being a first gen academic is to being the poor kid at a rich school.

I've been on a fixed rate contract for the last 6 months - locked it in just before the price hike. It's been an absolute life saver as I'm on a very low income at the moment.

I think this is one of the most valid criticisms of the voice proposal. I agree it doesn't go far enough in ensuring that governments listen to the voice. This is a big part of why I was on the fence with my vote for a while.
