It is the default on atomic distros. And many people who got to know flatpaks use it as a default on traditional installs as well.

But there are still bugs and quirks with some apps. Not all apps have all the functionality as a traditional install. E.g. dolphin or terminals.

It is up and coming and gradually replacing traditional installs. You rarely find an app that you can't install via flathub.

There are theming issues with older flatpaks.

Edit:

I have no idea how to view logs in the terminal with flatpaks.

You can't easily run flatpaks by their common known names. You have to use the reverse flatpak name which is annoying and difficult.

I really wish there was a government institution that would care about that

I wrote my advice. Thx for considering it.

This is an open source forum, meaning even lists are expected to be open, or free.

In the best case, you define criteria and others submit the content. If the only criteria is that is has to be open source (probably with a libre license, otherwise it's not really open), there will be a lot of rubbish on the list, even with some upvote criteria.

In the best case you find one or two others to create a group that takes care of the list.

E.g. openboard. It's still a good app, people still recommend it, people still use it. It's just not maintained anymore. And there's only a little security risk in this. Hence, for a curated list, such an app should not be recommended anymore, if and only if there is a viable alternative, although many people recommend it.

A megathread is an outdated method to show information. Usually, you use a git or wiki site for this kind of info. Anyone can suggest updates to the page or even directly update the page itself. Having one person curating the list once every couple of months isn't really state of the art.

Syncthing or nextcloud

How do you plan on not being oudated?

There was a post the other day saying openboard is no longer maintained. Would it sit on your list for x months until you update it?

Yes, as long as they can scrobble or you install the listenbrainz app on your phone

I love it. Been using it since 2 years or so. It's really good to have your own music statistics and not only spotify & co. It's open

Easiest is to use podman (or docker) with https://github.com/qdm12/gluetun
