This is an important observation. You're probably more right, that things can get worse without people caring. Sometimes when we say things will get worse unless we do something, that does prevent a bill from passing or someone awful getting elected or some business going bankrupt etc.

Americans do this with property too. If we only regulated foreigners from doing it, that would allow american investors the opportunity to do it more beduase they have less investors to compete with.

This take is basically accelerationism. That if something is bad it will inspire more people to change their opinion. Your take is fine, I guess.

Oooo thats awesome, yea!

He's been credibly accused of raping several women and confessed to it without apologizing, took a 6 months break, and now he's posting again.

He used one of his videos to talk about it and basically said "it could be worse" by pointing at other content creators doing poverty tourism and bad journalism. Of course Andrew is a better journalist, that wasnt ever my concern.

I'm trying to make it from New York to New Jersey. Traffic is slow, though. Yeah?

I want to be able to manage and sort them. I use firefox, so both tags and folders are okay. manually exporting groups of them to like documents related to the topic I was researching (and then removing the bookmark) would also be okay. Self-hosted solutions are also welcome.

Very successful post, thank you everyone for sharing your bookmark-related tools.

C/Mealtimevideos is gone? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hey I remember a community I liked called Mealtimevideos - not too short, not too long. Just right for lunchtime.

EDIT: https://slrpnk.net/post/2009611

EDIT: found! https://lemmy.best/c/mealtimevideos

Can no longer find this community. Is it

  • Deleted?
  • Defederated?
  • I am banned?

Edit: The creator/mod was banned from lemmy.world following some bot spam, and this automatically deleted the community.

Really would like if we had... discord style bots that would notify of these changes. I guess there is a modlog, but I have never looked at it.

Furthermore, I find this community was... better curated to my tastes (Video essays, urbanism youtube, and infodump videos) compared to the simple "Videos" communities.

Perhaps I'd like a c/Nebula since most of my favorite creators are now on Nebula and youtube is on a downward spiral.

EDIT: The creator / moderator of the instance replied!

Video discussion is the #1 thing I want to do on social media. I love videos and want to talk about em.

I found an account dedicated to spam posting "enlightened centrist" talking points and pundits. Their name itself is part of the advertising. They even would post the same content across multiple communities, without cross-posting. And not just political stuff, they posted the same meme about 4 times without linking them.

I know this sort of thing happened all the time on Reddit and essentially it was hopeless because of how the corporate power structure worked.

"Politics" and "News" communities seem especially "apolitical" (that is to say Neoliberal) and hands-off "free speech to the end user" about what is posted. I'll frequently see a lame article, sensationalist headline, instead of the first source or the most informative one. Or I'll see a great thread about a great news story - and someone reposts the same content the next day with better timing, and it will be weaker journalism with weaker comments - yet more people will see it. Now this doesn't constitute abuse, but it will be just as permissive of abuse of the system as Reddit was.

I've also seen threads asking about where to find good sources, how to find accurate journalism... without much great advice. It's sort of an acquired skill, but we have the potential to help people acquire it.
