Nothing is really stopping me, I just think iPhones align better with me now.

I am going to give 3 examples of why I switched from Android to iPhone. 1 - I used Samsung Galaxy S every generation till the S5, flashing ROMs every second day and I got tired of it. One thing that particularly bothered me was when I got my officially branded Galaxy S car holder, Car charger and a lot of other accessories and they didn't work with the SII.

2 - I use to jog quite a lot and used the arm strap with the cable and I thought I want a phone that prioritizes wireless audio. Apple was the first company that did that. I would have thought it would have been Sony with some of their previous phones.

3 - Samsung had many of the things I like in iPhone now already back in the Galaxy S and SII time. S Calendar, S notes, S diary, S transfer I think. That was dropped as a novelty after a few times. Once apple start with something they keep it, at least for a while.

I know phones are more mature now and Samsung probably doesn't do this anymore (Or hopefully they don't). But I already made the switch and I don't feel any reason to switch back at the moment.

Why I like iPhone: 1 - It doesn't change much over generations which helps with not having to buy new accessories the whole time.

2 - It doesn't allow me to change much so I don't bother changing much (I still do the dev betas etc, but they are not as time consuming as Roms)

3 - They don't generally try to be first to the market

4 - Privacy is better than commercial Android (I know you can get Android builds that are better)

5 - I like(d) that the App Store is the only way you can get Apps

6 - I like the eco system (I now have homepods, apple tv, macbook, iPad, iPhone, airpods and watch) - I know Samsung has a good one, but too late.

7 - Homekit/Homekey and carplay/carkey - I literally can walk around without keys. (I know this isn't unique, but again when I bought by car Apple was the only option)

8 - I don't feel like I have to upgrade every year.

I think I can do most my likes with Android as well. I just like the way Apple does it currently and they restrict some of my shortcomings.

I know I was holding out for USB C. I don’t know if this is the reason for it. Apple was also the only manufacturer in the top 3 to increase sales last year. Even with USB C, this still surprised me.

The last time a company not named Samsung was at the top of the smartphone market was 2010, and for 2023 it is now Apple

Yes, my entries in the journal app is much less thought out and structured than what I normally do for my diary entries.

I just wonder how easy it will be to find an entry if you want to look back after 1000s of entries. But I guess the app will also still grow with us.

It is fine that you don’t like it. I don’t really think you will get downvoted for it. I also don’t like LD as much as other people but I think it is fine.

There are many other trek things that I don’t like as much as other people, but in the end there are different parts of ST that resonates with different people.

The thing I like about ST is how realistic somethings from back in the day are. I also like the more serious tone of things, but I think with the popularity of things like the Orville etc you can see that a big part of the fandom was looking for something more light hearted.

Just tell your co-worker that LD is just not for you. I am sure he will understand.

For me this isn’t really a red flag but it is a big omission.

And it is the ecosystem that allows it to give you all that nice suggestions etc

I also don’t know how you would handle the export with all the exercise data etc there as well.

But a lot of apples products do have export like numbers pages etc. It is still in beta for its first release, maybe it will still come

Yes, because the entry is almost already done for you. You just write what you feel about it. No curating tour pictures etc.

The entry isn’t exactly like how I would want it but it isms close and it would have things in there like the location which I always set in my diaro entry and what it choose to be the best pictures.

It also adds suggestions that I normally wouldn’t write about like my walk or jog, but then because it is already compiled I just jot something down quickly.

Yes I really wanted that and import.

But what I saw of it made me use it more than my dedicated journal app that has more features that I want. Now that they updated for the SDK let me see how they are doing over the next couple of weeks.

Commentary: I don't use Journal every night, but even opening the app and looking back helps put time into perspective.

I won’t dislike your post, but I generally don’t like it.

What does that emoji at the end of your post mean. Are you physically crying. Is it symbolic to mean you are unhappy or sad or disheartened or something else that I couldn’t think of.

Now imagine if you do a string of those and me trying to figure it out.

I mean with keyboards now, it is probably faster swiping out the phrase :”This saddens me” than that emoji.

Yes, it is very minimal.

I can't get my workouts in there yet. It is all just put on a stack that can be sorted by time. And you can filter if it has some type of attachments.

You also can't have different journals for different things as far as I can see.

And yes, this should be an easy port to macOS and iPadOS. Would be nice if you can put in hand written notes.

I also don't like ad-filled apps, that is why I normally buy my apps.

I have used Diaro before and it was quite good. It could save your entries in iCloud or Dropbox and have apps for almost all platforms. I have also heard good things about Day One.

I played with the app for a bit and I think it is good enough to start with. If you don't have the baggage of trying to import from a different app I think it should be good to go from the get go.

I would have liked it if it could have shown my memories on a map and I could go look at my entries at a specific place etc. It currently only filters on if things are there. Not on the details of what is inside of those things.

But I think it is a good place to start from regardless. And the ability to share things directly with the journal is quite nice. I have already done it with some of the memories generated with the photos app, so I would assume anything can be shared with it.

I just updated to the Beta and tried it out for about 30 minutes.

The reflections is quite nice because of it's probing nature. And if you just want to dump in your thoughts it will be good as well and you can add the auto generated memories from photos in there if you want.

But I suspect that the other two apps that you used will have much more functionality than this currently. I used Diaro and it has many features in there that I would still want the journal app to add.

I am tempted to update to test out the journal app.

Wonder if it will be able to import journal entries from other apps.

Apple has the potential of creating a fuller detailing experience, but it probably won't be there just yet.
