My bad, I saw multiple app store listed, so I assumed you listed at least a couple options.

Imo tutanota ils still better than proton since they've never been compromises by sharing user data with the authorities.

As for Quillpad, I never tried Joplin but Quillpad is pretty awesome, deserves more recognition. Also it's les than 5Mo whereas Joplin is nearly 100Mo and asking for permissions like geoloc. I get that it's open source but this sub is about privacy, and Quillpad seems more adequate on that matter.

Email : tutanota (mail.tutanota.com) Notes : quillpad (https://quillpad.github.io/) Distro : mint

EDIT: Thank you all for your help, I guess I'll have to keep changing location, filling captcha and occasionally allow an exception. Keeping ones internet activity even remotely private requires effort, even with good tools.

Hi,

After reading time and again about how Mullvad VPN is the best VPN out there, I decided to give it a try and got myself an account & credit for a month worth of trial.

However after a couple days of use on my mobile (I also use Mullvad Browser), I'm getting bounced from many mainstream website.

Is this normal? Any settings I should adjust?

Cheers

Lemmy start by saying I don't trust telegram in termes of privacy (pun intended). But I still use it for specific purposes and I was wondering if there is a point in using a fork privacy-wise? I's assume not since it still uses telegram servers but still curious about an explanation as to why not! Cheers

More specifically, I'm thinking about forkgram, a telegram fork. I get that open source app make their code public therefore people can use it and build from it, but I thought it allowed for creating a separate app. Forkgram however still has all my chats so it must be able to connect to telegram servers and both apps must be somehow intertwined. Since telegram is only partly open sourced, I don't understand how this is possible and why telegram would allow this?

And additionnaly, isn't there a way to exploit this so we can store more stuff on PCs?

Edit: can't thank you all individually but thanks to everyone, I learnt something today, appreciate all of your replies!

You can set up multiple user profile and install the play services in only 1 profile if you want to jeep other profile more private

This is the last product I still make sacrifice to keep it working on my degoogled devices, because lets be honest, this is the best ("free") GPS there is out there. I've tried so many others but nothing comes close. I dunno what I'll do if (when) they launch this kind of crap here...

Hi,

A friend wants to degoogle his phone, so I suggested the OS I'm currently using. The one we can't talk about... He wants a small/compact phone, so I suggested pixel 4a (not buying second hand though), but I'm afraid that planned obsolescence may kill the phone rather soon. What's your opinion?

Cheers and thank you for your help,

We all know how the far right has a hard time letting go of it's grip on power, that's for sure. But this ils no 'gamble', like he'd be cornered to do this, he led us here. He is deliberately playing with the french like they're just paws in his self-centered game.

The conditions he spent years building? Yeah, I'm not falling for that.

That's be cause what u/balinares forgot to mention is that Macron has been steadily giving the far right his (barely disguized) support by leading policies that are very well aligned with far right ideas, and he has continuously portrayed lefists as crazy. Oh and he also kept setting up debates between his party and the far right leaders, putting them in some sort of 'legitimate' position (like there's been a debate between our prime minister and the head of the far right list for these election, there was absolutely no reason to do it, but hey who give a crap about fairplay uh?). Oh and also we now have our own fox news (cnews here), broadcasting on a public network, but not respecting there duty to remain neutral. But no wonders why, since these media are owned by a far right billionaire.

TLDR: Macron carefully set the conditions for the far right to win these election by portraying them as the only opposition, and now he's all whiny that surprise surprise, the far right is aslo far ahead.

Comparing it to Chirac's situation is downplaying how crazy te move is right now. Can you imagine how fucked up this is? Like "oh, the far right has more than twice as many votes as we got, it must be some sort of big misclick situation, lets check it out !"
