So when will CPUs integrate the hardware necessary to compete with GPUs on these tasks? This situation is ridiculous, the device designed for this isn't able to keep up with the device designed for something else entirely

Yeah, I don't care about color changing LEDs in the trim or talking computers, just give me a cheap android-auto-compatible head unit (replaceable please, none of that integrated bullshit), a cheap instrument cluster and a real handbrake.
In my country if you buy used from a dealer you get 1 year warranty by law. Makes it pretty safe, especially if you have the car checked by s trustworthy mechanic (finding one is the hard part!)
