Terraria is great! Also kudos to Re-Logic for supporting the industry!
What I meant is a retiree crisis. You have been working for 40/50 odd years, and all of a sudden you loose the one thing that gave structure to your life.
Power. And need to feel useful.
Problem is, self hosted solutions require an investment into dedicated software. And even still, it doesn't work that well. As I said, my Synology Photos will load photos after a while, but videos is a whole different story. And it's not the internet connection in my case
So what's up with this novel? Can't find anything obvious about it - only that it's mighty popular among conservatives (which is usually a red flag)
I started my journey to degoogle myself very recently. I'm still to make the transition from Google stuff, but for now I treat it two fold.
- I treat it as a side hobby - I know it would be more convenient to just stay under the Google umbrella, but I'm interested in the state of FOSS and how far you can replicate gtools. I'm waiting for my Synology NAS drive and hopefully this will cover most of my needs.
- A personal statement/protest against greedy companies - I know that cutting access to some of my data (I'm not disillusioned - I know they still have a lot of my data and they will still have access to some) won't make a difference, but by switching from WhatsApp to Signal, I created a conversation among my friends and family. They became a bit more aware of the current situation. Same with switching from Reddit to Lemmy. The further I travel on my path, the more people around me are interested in their own privacy.
So if you are realistic about it, as you are judging from your post, I would say it's worth - even if just as a middle finger to the big, privacy violating conglomerates. We shouldn't just roll over and give up our personal lives.
Also, you will have full deniability of any future repercussions of people allowing big corpos doing with their data whatever they want.
"the staff tried to defibrillate her heart; at that point several people[who?] saw an oily sheen covering Ramirez's body, and some noticed a fruity, garlic-like odor that they thought was coming from her mouth. Registered nurse Susan Kane drew blood from Ramirez's arm and noticed an ammonia-like smell coming from the tube"
Holy smokes, imagine being that toxic that even your blood stinks O.O
Question is, did they lower the projector to a groin level or did he stand on a stool to test it out.
This is just ridiculous - prosecuting Yaroslavl Hunka makes sense, as he himself was a part of a nazzi military outpost.
Prosecuting or using it as a political tool against Chrystia Freeland makes absolutely no sense as it was her grandfather (!) who was at involved in the nazzi business.
Blame granddaughter for grandfather's sins...
I don't know what's going on politically in Canada, but this is just pathetic in my opinion.
Edit:
The link to her essay mentions her grandfather a couple of times, but never "cites as a political inspiration". Just to give a historical context.
Terrible piece of journalism
