Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

Line can't go up infinitely in a finite world despite some pretending it is. The resources needed to replace the fossil fuel based energy with renewables completely on a 1:1 basis simply isn't available currently, so without a dramatic breakthrough our consumption will need to decrease.

Now go build more rockets for the ruling class.

We are social creatures that like stories.

The story that fossil fuels are bad and that electric vehicles with point source environmental consequences that can be mitigated through [insert economics 101 term here] is a good story.

An honest assessment of what it would take for a society to transition from a fossil fuel based to renewable based is only a good story for engineering and math heads.
