Maybe just make a fucking forum? Jesus why did discord ever get popular in the first place?
Steam Deck
A place to discuss and support all things Steam Deck.
Replacement for r/steamdeck_linux.
As Lemmy doesn't have flairs yet, you can use these prefixes to indicate what type of post you have made, eg:
[Flair] My post title
The following is a list of suggested flairs:
[Discussion] - General discussion.
[Help] - A request for help or support.
[News] - News about the deck.
[PSA] - Sharing important information.
[Game] - News / info about a game on the deck.
[Update] - An update to a previous post.
[Meta] - Discussion about this community.
Some more Steam Deck specific flairs:
[Boot Screen] - Custom boot screens/videos.
[Selling] - If you are selling your deck.
These are not enforced, but they are encouraged.
Rules:
- Follow the rules of Sopuli
- Posts must be related to the Steam Deck in an obvious way.
- No piracy, there are other communities for that.
- Discussion of emulators are allowed, but no discussion on how to illegally acquire ROMs.
- This is a place of civil discussion, no trolling.
- Have fun.
Agreed. Discord is a chatroom not a forum.
Because you can make a Discord server with a few clicks. It's super easy. I wish more people used things indexable by search engines too, but you really can't deny how incredibly easy Discord is from the side of the people wanting to set up something.
You can make a lemmy community in a few clicks if you don't want to run your own instance.
And everyone already has an account, they can just press a button to join the server and be interacting straight away.
Can you show me your discord server? Is it in the room with us? I think discord owns all the discord servers but that's just me...
I am using the terminology Discord uses. I am aware it is not a server in the traditional sense. Be angry with them, not me.
Discord is a superb chat room with voice chat and screen share.
Most of the userbase is too young to know forums exist.
It got popular because it's excellent for gaming communities. Not for code base discussion.
Jesus why did discord ever get popular in the first place.
Because its more than a bunch of posts, its voice comms and thats more useful. So find a platform that does both and maybe people change, maybe. More likely we will have to wait for IPO and enshitification before that happens.
Because stupid people use it, and unfortunately stupid people are most.
STOP USING DISCORD
Make me an foss alternative that has all the discord features and the user base.
I get it.
I can't use discord because my privacy settings on my devices is such that discord demands my phone number from me, and that is not a piece of personally identifying information I will ever share with them.
You can't use the webapp?
I always just use the browser app and I don't think I've given them my phone number... I should check that actually
I understand you. You can always use a temp number or get a sim without credit
That is a proper workaround when you don’t have a choice, disposable temp sim will get you through their “security”. Unfortunately doesn’t work with virtual sim numbers though.
This is super cool. I hope it works really well, the difficulty of accessing troubleshooting info from discord is such a problem.
Wow, so now I don't have to bug them on Discord and just Google things? That's pretty useful.
Support threads, if they're ising what I think they are, already look a lot like traditional forum posts. Great idea to actually make it a forum
