Commit to meaningful consultation, building respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before proceeding with economic development projects.

We've had 10 years of stagnant growth and our average wage is now lower than the poorest US state, yet they want to double down. I have to wonder what foreign interference goes on in Canada for us to deny ourselves our own wealth, as we ignore money laundering and everything else that makes housing unaffordable as food bank usage explodes.

Is it China attempting to deprive the US of resources, as China imports Russian oil themselves and opens coal plants to bolster their own economy?

A convenient excuse to not develop our resources, leading to massive losses in foreign investment into Canada. Why would anyone invest here when bureaucracy makes it impossible, why would they not invest in the US instead leaving them with higher wages and more economic growth as has been the case over the last 10 years?

We are last in the OECD for growth, as we import people into a housing and doctor shortage to hide it. This video has the graph at 2:40 if you want proof of that.

So you're of the opinion that we should just say "fuck you" to indigenous people and their treaty rights, and just continue exploiting the resources of their ancestral lands that we invaded and violated their rights to all to make a quicker buck?

What do you think is going to happen, that indigenous people are just gonna say "nah" and purposely be a pain in the ass for the government? Cause if that's what you think of them, which this thought process of "oh this just gets in the way of things" heavily implies, then perhaps that's a you problem and not a problem of the government's to respect and reconcile with the people it's fucked over since Europeans and the likes stepped foot here.

Well do you want functioning hospitals, a social safety net, things like that? Those take actual money, current account balance, exports. You also happen to think healthcare should be a human right I would assume?

Answer the question directly. Do you, or do you not respect the rights of indigenous people to their ancestral lands? Do you or do you not believe they have the right to dictate the projects that happen on their treaty lands and how they benefit from those projects?

Or do you want to see Canada see the profits of the exploitation of these resources, all while these people continue to beg for fucking potable water, left behind yet again by the federal government?

Tell us how you really feel about indigenous people rather than hide it behind this thin veil.

My question was not what is UNDRIP, it was why UNDRIP.

To be fair most indigenous people probably do not care too much about abbreviations, they likely have more pressing problems in their life :/

And to be clear, anything that recognized the shit indigenous poeple have gone through and is at least attempting to make a net positive for them is good.

Silly abbrevation is still silly though.

Their ownership also extends to the protection of their Indigenous intellectual property.[2] The declaration "emphasizes the rights of Indigenous peoples to maintain and strengthen their own institutions, cultures and traditions, and to pursue their development in keeping with their own needs and aspirations."[3] It "prohibits discrimination against indigenous peoples and promotes their full and effective participation in all matters that concern them, and their right to remain distinct and to pursue their own visions of economic and social development"

Carney opened Friday's forum by reiterating a commitment to reconciliation, and admitted that there is much more to do on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) Act and its action plan, the calls for justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action.

UNDRIP is a human rights instrument that acknowledges Indigenous Peoples have the right to give or withhold consent for projects that impact them. The Conservatives have opposed this policy as a "veto," while the Liberals passed legislation in 2021 requiring federal laws be harmonized with UNDRIP.

DOTROIP I guess is a little better. Surprisingly I did actually read the article, I was just wondering why would anyone pick a name that would be abbreviated (everything can be verb'd right?) to UNDRIP. Unless they did not get to pick the name for rhe irganization that's supposedly on their side. Thanks for the wiki link btw, I was too lazy to look up the background on this
