I want a phone like a paper map where when completely unfolded, I'd be unsure how to fold it back.

And that you can sort of fold back the wrong way, just not completely flat.

Make an app that guides users when folding the phone

I mean if never want one, but in an engineering level this site looks fascinating.

That looks useless on a catastrophic scale.

I think in 5-10 years foldables will have a strong market presence.

Remember "phablets"; almost all smartphones eventually turned into phablets.

Which is, arguably, for the worse. I miss smaller 16:9 devices I could use one-handed and reach all the corners of. Almost cried when I had to give up my OnePlus 3 and everything now is an unwieldy, tall-skinny rectangle.

I've not had a hands-on experience with foldables yet, but the reviews I've read imply they still seem too fragile for the price.

I am not arguing for or against a given form factor, I personally like big screens, but I would only be happy for there to be offerings and more competition.

I am just saying that it's not completely unreasonable to speculate that in the future almost all smartphone will use the foldable format.

Oh, yeah, the speculation is not unreasonable. I just don't know if that's necessarily a good thing (unless there's a huge leap in durability preceding that).

I'm already rocking the foldable I like, anyway lol:

Cool device, what is the model?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Cat S22 Flip. Sadly discontinued as well as the manufacturer (Bullit) out the phone business.

This made my day.

My wrist hurts, gimme back my tiny pixel 4a.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What phone do you currently use?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

The 4a 5G, ironically. Looks only a little bit wider, but the difference is quite significant in practice. It is on its last legs though and the replacement (9a) is in the mail.

We do what we must because we can...?

I would argue there is also a national component to this. Huawei, a leading Chines tech company (heavily sanctioned by the US), was first to bring a trifold to the market.
