Just do what he does and totally ignore everything. Unless there is prison time being threatened it’s all a farce.

I guarantee before this is all over that motherfucker will be throwing politicians into prison just for being in opposition to his fascism. They won't say that's the reason, of course.

Well maybe if Russia had better building codes, they wouldn’t have so many balconies without railings and people wouldn’t be accidentally falling off them all the time 😇

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I agree but I don’t think they will make up another reason. They haven’t been very vague about anything this far. They’re just testing the water to see what they can get away with, and so far it has been “anything”

A thorough summary of what's going on. It's up to the judiciary now. Will the Republican-appointed judges in the Supreme Court oppose him, either out of patriotism or pride? I'm quite concerned, because I didn't expect the Republicans in Congress to give up that institution's authority but they have done so. I don't know if Congress will have any power left by the time the Democrats have a chance to gain the majority there in the midterms.

10 democrats and one independent voted with them. Including the senate minority leader.

and that will be precisely the moment historians mark as the point of no return for democracy in the US, fuck you Chuck Shumer

I'm not sure he actually did the wrong thing there - he has no fear of being primaried for opposing Trump (but rather the opposite) and a lot more political experience than most of his critics. Maybe it really was the smaller loss in a lose/lose situation.

With that said, the part where he opposed it before supporting it was weird. With things the way they are, I can't even rule out that he was threatened somehow.

Maybe it really was the smaller loss in a lose/lose situation.

If it was the smaller loss, republicans wouldn't have voted for it.

Neither side wants to be responsible for a shutdown.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

Hogwash. Republicans revel in shutdowns, yet they voted against this one.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk how you can blame the Democrats for a shutdown when Republicans control all three bodies that can avert it

[–] [email protected] -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even you perceive Schumer as the person who decided whether or not to go ahead with the shutdown, or else you wouldn't blame him for not shutting down the government.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

"Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." Letting tthe Republicans shoot themselves in the foot is very different than giving them everything they want on a silver platter.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah, he has the political experience to know when to throw his party under the bus. My mom has been voting Democrat for 40 years, somehow that CR vote is what convinced her to go 3rd party next election. Only someone with that much political experience could have pulled that off.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I think it's the other way around. The executive branch has signaled it will ignore the courts. If SCOTUS makes a ruling that Trump would later ignore, then the public perception will be that the courts have no power. If they go along with Trump, they at least get to preserve the facade.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The BEST response is to just do EXACTLY what he says and NOT Push Back at ALL! THAT will Teach him a Lesson!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We have to make sure the left continues to support Israel. If that means acquiescing to every single Trump demand, then so be it. - Chuck Schumer

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Chuck Shumer is a worthless piece of shit and will likely go down in US history for being one of the most widely despised and made fun of politicians in U.S. history.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I can think of at least one person in a more prominent position who I feel is more widely despised and made fun of than Schumer.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I think you underestimate how important this moment was and how thunderously pathetic chuck shumer was in his meeting of that moment.

There are plenty of fascist republicans like jd vance, trump, bannon steve miller, that are obviously hated because they caused this, but the truth is, and even I can admit this as a leftist, chuck shumer is even more pathetic than they are.

I am not bothsides-ing things here, fascist republicans are the clear threat and cause of this, but by far and away I despise chuck shumer more, he wanted immense responsibility and power but apparently is utterly incapable and unwilling to use it to stop a literal coup.

It is like the rich kid demanding the lead role in a play that other more talented and driven kids wanted and then proceeding to utterly half ass the role so it ruins the play even though everyone else on stage is pouring their hearts into it.

Chuck shumer spit in the face of everyone who is still fighting that is why he will go down in US history as one of the most made fun of US political figures by people across the political spectrum.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

When the clear enemy are the people promoting and creating fascism, I see you focused on a person failing to stand up to it. I do agree it is a huge missed opportunity, but it will be a long term struggle and you might be getting distracted here with infighting.

Sure, we can be angry and learn that we can't trust this person as much as we hoped, but then we move on and keep pushing to our larger goals.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Nah dawg, this is exactly the kind of attitude that loses to fascism.

What you do is mercilessly make fun of Chuck Shumer until the end of time, you make his name synonomous with a fake performative opposition to terrifying evil. You make his name synonomous with being a phony coward.

No, why the hell would we let this slide? These are the moments that we must make sure are marked and understood for history both in history books and in the collective conscious of everyday people. Chuck Shumer threw away the last bit of resistance, snipped the last brakes on the fascism train and he did so with incredible smugness.

Nope, lol, we don't move on from this, I mean we do, but we move on with our new found love of making fun of Chuck Shumer for being the worst kind of dangerous idiot.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe the best response is just telling him you're doing it and do nothing in reality.
