What's the orange rectangle at the top next to the water bottles?
Also, probably a dumb question so I apologize for my ignorance in advance:
Would a lifestraw be something worth taking?

The orange thing is my sleeping pad. I prefer a foam mat to to a blowup pad.
And totally understandable question! I'm bringing a sawyer squeeze water filter. It connects to the top of a squeezable bag or a smart water bottle if your bag breaks.
Cool, I'd never heard of Sawyer squeeze before now. Thanks for the reply!
They're fucking great. You attach a little pouch they gice and squeeze through the filter Vastly better than lifestraws. I've never actually used my lifestraws because the sawyer squeeze is so much better.
Congrats, have a great time! The only time (so far) I have had to get water from a stock pond was on the CDT in northern NM. Good times! I would recommend having a plan for food storage by the time you get to the Gila. I use a bear can but they're not for everyone.
Thanks! I've had some pretty nasty water before, but it sounds like the CDT is gonna take that to another level. Is it weird to be excited about gross water?
I don't think it's weird, a lot of water is pretty rough and what's out on the trail is generally going to better than city water in Mexico. I only got that water bc of a knee problem and didn't want to tank up coming out of a valley. It wasn't bad tasting but sure was green 💚 personally I think the water from wildlife feeders is actually gross. No bueno 👎
When do you start?
Ha, yeah, that sounds... Not great. Starting April 8!
CDT?
The Continental Divide Trail. 3000 miles along the rocky mountains from Mexico to Canada. I've been getting the money together and looking forward to this for the last two years!
Oh that’s amazing! That is my retirement dream, assuming I can afford it and my knees will let me.
I do hope you have a safe and life changing (for the better) adventure.
