So. the FTC doesn’t have enough people now to do its job… great planning there.

this is exactly what has happened; previously, the FTC was aggressively pursuing anti-trust against Amazon, Google, etc.
This is 100% the point. This is why oligarchs threw in with Trump. It's exactly the same reasoning to defund the IRS, so they don't have the manpower to go after the big fish.
