Well, Tesla aside, all manufacturers manufacture some percent of their USDM cars outside of the US. For GM it's over half. Even Honda, Toyota and Subaru USDM cars are more likely to be US-made than GM. Stellantis and Ford however are in 2nd and third place in Tesla so not TOO bad. Source

Buying a USA domestic brand that was assembled abroad and imported pays USA stock owners, not USA factory workers and local economies.

All American brands build cars outside of the US. It’s typically the cheaper models that are made elsewhere.
Ford built the Edge in Canada, dodge built the charger and challenger in Canada, Chevy built some Silverado’s there. Chevy and dodge both built some of their trucks in Mexico too. Shit some Chevy models are made in china and shipped back to the US.
There’s an easy way to tell what country a car is made in. If the vin starts with 1 4 5 and sometimes 7 it’s made on the US. If it’s 2 it’s made in Canada. If it’s 3 it’s Mexico. Y is china I believe.
Was just making a point to OP about "American" vs "Japanese" companies, who seems to care more about the headquarters' locations rather than the workers'.

Nah, this is just ransacking and gutting the government. All the oligarchs remember how much money they made off the covid pandemic and want to recreate that. Doom spending to try and drown out the voices, panic spending because toilet paper, etc. Also there is 100% a reason trump kept talking about wanting to see the gold in Fort Knox and that is totally just a stimulus for the uhaul industry.
Same thing with the tariffs. They are hoping for small stock market crashes that let them buy low and then sell when it rebounds because the tariffs are totally coming next month, not this month.
And... that is also why there is such a big focus on Canada and Greenland. That is land that is going to be less impacted by global warming and they know it is coming (there was a spectacular article by a sex worker in Geneva on the topic. Short version: Everyone knows it is coming and that stopping it would hurt quality of life. So they are focused on making sure they are comfortable while we die).

The smartest thing a car owner can do is keep a single car running forever.
Now that depends very heavily on the car. An 07 Honda? Mechanically you're probably right. If it's rusting, I'll have to disagree with you though. Japanese cars do have a tendency to rust more than their western counterparts (at least applies to a lot of the ones made in the 90s and 00s).
I've seen some mid-00s Audis' powertrain issues make grown men cry, metaphorically speaking.
I'd still be driving the 98 Honda if someone didn't steal the catalytic converter, in an extremely destructive manner while the car was uninsured in the driveway
What model? Asking because 98 was an awesome year for Honda.
civic hatchback. that thing had some unreal mileage on it and would have kept going but I was told it would need more than just the catalytic because of the way it was cut out. I still have an 83 civic wagon in storage too but I don't have time or money to get it running again and just bike for most things these days.
And unless you live in the like five places in the US where not having a vehicle is even possible you're screwed. I hate! Having to depend on my car for everything. I don't make enough money to have a reliable vehicle so every day it's nerve racking whenever the car makes a unfamiliar sound, or takes too long to start.
even with public transportation, in the west its already in jeopardy because we have a budget problem and our city is planning to cutback a ton of services. by summer time, because in the last few years since covid protocols was lifted they have been ramping up citations violaitons to compensate for the loss.
I just got back from Atlanta, Georgia, and holy shit I almost forgot how bad road infrastructure could be. 5 blocks from a grocery store and it's basically illegal to walk to it. There technically are crosswalks, but no sidewalk to get to them. The funniest part is the traffic is significantly worse than similar city populations because most of the intersections are high risk high speed crossings.
No sidewalk getting to Target across the street from our hotel when visiting family in the midwest. Death walk.
