I've learned that checking comments in UpliftingNews is often counterproductive. Uplifting news, then someone posts a comment that just invokes depression all over again. Yes, I am directly referencing the user above you's comment as one such comment—though just in case anyone is curious I didn't downvote (in case one shows up), on topic, probably correct, and I don't see anything on the sidebar saying depressing comments about how bad the thing the good news is opposing is would be against the rules.

So why am I in the comments now? Unfortunately bad habits are hard to break.

I'm from Montreal. One of my friend work for the city. I remember I was shocked when she told me they buy most of their from amazon. Isn't it just common sens to buy local? It's not news that amazon is a fucking disgusting soul-less business. Same goes for all the gafam. I work for colleges and a university and the addiction to Microsoft is fucking insane. It's to the point where it's now even impossible to work or study in an institution if you refuse to give all your personnal data to Microsoft. What a fucking stupid society we have built.

They put their OS in most prebuilt computers, which unlike Apple are mostly affordable for the average user, so it's what people are used to. Linux is a lot of DIY even with user-friendly distros, and I think the tech support they give isn't as trusted as Microsoft's.

I have been trying to get far from GAFAM but, due to how shit is already built around it, it's hard. I don't think I'll convince anyone to give up whatsapp at all, let alone Windows

It's actually not even computer related. The government has a law about 2FA for all institutions. They're a lot of solution possible but of course, they forces you to use ms authenticator.

Nice one. I have vastly cut down on Amazon spending to try and buy more things locally. I wish there was a local app we could use (Scotland) which collated local sellers and their items, would rather pay more to get them from here instead of Amazon when I can’t drive there.

I haven't bought anything off Amazon for years.

If I can't find it locally, then I will literally go to any website other than Amazon: The manufacturer's website, department store websites, Target, eBay, trying to avoid Walmart.
