The name of a non-profit that I truly believe in is just going to shit. The reason of banning a nazi troll that we warned you had alts as "userbase request" is at most disgusting. I was here making stuff because I believe in what you do as an org.

That being said, STOP SPINNING UP INSTANCES YOU ARE NOT WILLING OR CAPABLE OF MANAGING

"userbase request"

It's accurate, though.

It just goes to show you what we can accomplish by banding together and bargaining against SDF management collectively. To that end, on behalf of the user base, I'd like to demand a one-time payment of $500 to wesker and of 500 girlcocks to myself.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

I'd feel more comfortable with a 50/50 split of girlcocks and money.

Yeah, accurate and correct are different ideas, though. If they don't do drastic things, they may even face legal stuff soon.

Editing to add: that 2tb of space is going to go bye bye quickly as well.

It kind of feels like you're trying to threaten or pressure others into agreeing with you, or bully administration into complying.

If you want to purge your own contributions, that's your prerogative.

If you're suggesting that you will nuke active communities that you moderate if administration doesn't comply with your demands, then you're not on the right side of this either, IMO.

I'm not trying to be unempathetic, I'm just trying to be zen.

I'm sorry to reply once again, but it seems we have legitimately woken up the need for an admin account here. The troll is banned once again.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago

You have a very real point here. The only community that I mod here is linux_video_editing. I'm just deeply upset and having a hard time finding reason. If anyone is willing to just moderate that, never post, please make a comment there.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

I'm just nuking posts for the time being. New mods needed at linux_video_editing

After that nonsense yesterday and an untagged furry porn community showing up on my feed today, I'm one shitpost away from blocking this instance. Most of the users seem like decent people, but I do not want to consume that content or lose my job because some nosy ass saw a thumbnail of anthropomorphic "girlcock" on my screen, I have NSFW blocked for a reason.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

At least the admins seem awake now. I've really bothered them in every way I can. 1 hour is wayyy better than more than a day. And if it happens, I don't think any of us would be mad. The content here is very specific to us.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I have no idea what this instance's content is, as those are the only two times I've seen posts from this instance. I've seen the users about commenting, though, and ya'll seem alright.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The content here can best be described as a love of computers, helping people (amputees and people restricted from government sites because they use TOR), and I guess and art collective. There is alot of OC art that makes it here.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That sounds like a worthwhile cause to me! I hope that it gets better for ya'll, as I can imagine it is even more frustrating for you if you're browsing local, and it's filled with that nonsense like it was yesterday.

If you'd maybe like to donate: here's the link. They do things like making learning computing available to people that can't do it otherwise. Anyone can sign up for the public UNIX, which means potentially thousands of people can learn how to operate FOSS (Free and Open Source Software)

I agree, this is stupid. Why should we settle for a server where the admin won't even apply updates on time or fix bugs in a timely manner. Let alone moderate their instance properly.

I barely even use this instance and I'm really only here for [email protected], I couldn't imagine how much it would suck if this was my only account or only instance to access Lemmy from.

Edit: Glad to see they've been banned. Though it honestly doesn't really change much in my opinion if something doesn't seriously change when it comes to the instance management.

We need sign up barriers at the least. As well as community creation barriers. I'm at the point where I'm willing to be the one to be rude on Mastodon.

One idea I had would be that they could require accounts to have SDF emails, that would basically require people to have Validated TTY accounts, I believe social.sdf.org does this. They could also accomplish the same thing by closing registration completely and having it be solely managed via the Maint command in the TTY shell.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Yes, a validated TTY account is required for social.sdf.org

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

I'm surprised that more of their services aren't like that. I mean they should be, but for some reason they aren't.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You're right. I think that Lemmy was, at most, an afterthought. We've had to wake up the admins to the fact that there is a substantial number of people here and that their easy sign up policies here can easily be abused.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

I think it very likely was, similar to how mastodon.sdf.org was largely an afterthought. I say that because that server has had many maintenance issues in the past and I've seen people complaining about it while nothing gets done. Part of the reason I joined social.sdf.org instead.

Hell they managed to keep social.sdf.org up even when there was a power outage. They clearly care about that one a lot. Not Lemmy or the general Mastodon one though. These are just an afterthought because someone at SDF thought it would be really cool to get into the Fediverse.

This is a brilliant idea. It keeps the instance to the people that use the service as well as weeds out trolls. I'm not sure how feasible it is, but if anyone can, I'm sure that people that have kept a system alive since 1987 can.
