Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The work these groups do will be critical during a second Trump Administration.

Are any of these orgs more powerful than the judicial branch and executive branch combined? If not they are just collecting empty money, a grift but for the other side

We need lots and lots of lawyers on our side to fight this stuff. Sometimes we will lose in court, but often we won't. A lot of judges actually do believe in the rule of law. Not everything will make it to the Supreme Court and not everything that does make it there will be upheld.

If we don't fight things in court, nothing stops them from taking effect, so that is priority number 1 in terms of funding. We need to pay good lawyers good money or else they'll watch the US crumble with the rest of us.

Is there a Luigi Training Center I can donate to?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 22 hours ago

No, but if you're looking for somewhere to learn to shoot without having to interact with neo-Nazi LARPers, there is the SRA.

I imagine you can purchase 3d printed guns from an org that designs them. Usually purchasing open hardware aids its future development

I'd rather see organizations that I can join and DO something rather than give money to. So many organizations will take your money but dont want to talk to you otherwise.

Almost every single time I've asked "what can i do?" I have been told that it's just so much easier to donate. We just want to pay our staff (as if I'm the one holding that back from them).

I actively participate in local politics and i can tell you that 90% of the organizations i see in my area are "nationwide" and absolute no shows at Town/Village meetings/hearings.

If you are gonna donate to charities, vet them a little. I'm not saying the majority of them are not legit, i simply disagree with how some orgs go about implementation so i choose based off that.

I'll also say that especially with the upcoming recession we might be facing, mutual aid is incredibly important. If you're in a big city, find your local Food Not Bombs chapter, or just Google "mutual aid [your area]". I guarantee you that someone has put something together in your city or county.

I dont get this. They can't help you take to the streets. They're lobbyists and investigate journalists. You need staff to so that. You can apply for a job, if you'd like.

ACLU is already suing and will continue to do so. Another great one to support which is not on this list is the National Network of Abortion Funds.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago

Wonder if we could get a list stickied for the community?

Any thoughts on which organizations can make the biggest impact or need help the most? It's tough to choose.

Think I'm leaning towards Immigration Impact.

Maybe watch his speech and try estimate the percent of his hate directed to each marginalized group, and allocate according to that percentage

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

I’m supporting ACLU

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes democrats can't beat him in an election but they can still take your money.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 23 hours ago

I was disappointed to see some orgs on this list that endorsed Harris, but not all did.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is good. I need this. I was just wondering this today.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Same here. Today was tough.

Did any of these groups do anything at all during initial Trump presidency? Because I haven't heard of most of them (exclude ACLU, SPLC & PP). They all sound like useless money sinks if none of them are willing to throw down the gloves and fight dirty.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago

I only give money to Luigis.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks for this. This is really cool.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Very welcome!

Investors need quarterly dividends.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Nonprofits by law dont have investors and cannot pay dividends. Thats what makes them nonprofits

[–] [email protected] 0 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Sure buddy. All above board no corruption. Nothing to see behind this curtain.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

You realize their books are open, right?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

You realize their is always a way, right. A loophole. But sure non profits are awesome 😎
