I don’t buy it. He then flees to Russia? The Russians do not like Israel and side with Iran. Something isn’t adding up.

This is not even remotely true, you should probably read up on Russian Israeli relations, while they do engage with groups like Hamas and ally themselves with states opposed to Israel like Iran, Russia and Israel have a very close relationship
