That's just how relationships tend to form. Assuming you aren't going via a dating site, you tend to just start off as acquaintances and overtime realize you like each other.
My girlfriend is just my friend who I ended up hanging around with pretty much all the time.
Me and my girlfriend ended up together because everyone around us already thought we were in a relationship.
