Summary

Female veterans and service members are condemning Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth’s comments opposing women in combat roles, calling them outdated and harmful.

Hegseth claimed women in combat complicate military effectiveness, despite decades of evidence proving their competence, including service in Iraq and Afghanistan, where over 300,000 women served, with 179 killed and over 1,000 wounded.

Critics, including Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a Purple Heart recipient, argue Hegseth’s views ignore the realities of modern warfare.

His nomination has sparked backlash, further amplified by past allegations of sexual misconduct.

Sorry, ladies, but you were outvoted by the conservatives by a large margin. You could try confronting them, but it’s far too late now.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Well technically white women voted for this too.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 hours ago

Not the young ones.

That and the fact that he thought it was a good idea to throw an ax at a small target that had people behind. And his white supremacist tattoo. And the dude does not wash his hands after he shits. It'd be a shame if he and RFK Jr got cholera and/or hep C.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Most people agree with him and nothing will ever change their minds. We are not living in a world of evidence based beliefs.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

So. The secretary of defense is not an elected position. Most people in the country don't even know who currently holds the role.

The opinion of those he leads and works with is much more important.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 18 hours ago

The opinion of who leads the country and his voters are more important. It's like the west trying to install democracy and progress in afghanistan. The locals aren't having it.

You know what? I'm starting to think that a nazi might not be a good pick for Defense Secretary if he can't respect women.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I’m starting to think that nazi is short for bad.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 hours ago

while you're busy debating whether these are Nazis or just sparkling fascists you'll end up in the same spot regardless

[–] [email protected] 14 points 16 hours ago

Naw this guy has literal white supremacist and Nazi tattoos

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

I guess I'm confused but your need to qualify that statement at all.

Maybe we went wrong somewhere...

If Americans wanted Women to have Rights and Respect they WOULDNT have Voted for a Convicted Rapist!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

53% of white women voted for Trump in 2024.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 hours ago

That's nearly a dead even split and it was mostly not the younger ones who voted for him.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 12 hours ago

Hey! He might be a rapist, but he is "their rapist" so it is okay.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought you were supposed to be satirical. This is just a fact.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 22 hours ago

A fact apart from the millions and millions of women who did not vote for him.

[–] [email protected] 58 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sexual misconduct is a prerequisite for the trump administration

[–] [email protected] 13 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

to be fair the army has historically been quite fond of it as well

[–] [email protected] -1 points 15 hours ago

I thought that was the navy 😉😘⚓️💦👅

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You misspelled requirement

[–] [email protected] 15 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

What do you think a prerequisite is? If you're going to be pedantic, at least be right...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago

Hah! Beat me to the pedantry! I love that word.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Trump is throwing out rapid fire unqualified pics to force votes against him in the Senate. This isn’t usual politics. He’s just throwing grenades because he can.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 16 hours ago

I saw some bonkers rumor about Trump adjourning cogress allowing him to make recess appointments.

So he throws out shit nominees to force the Senate to not approve someone, looking at you RFK, Trump says he cant work with this Senate and adjourns them. Makes even worse appointmemts and bingo bango we have an american despot.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No, he's throwing out horrible picks so that the slightly less horrible picks that come after them seem reasonable.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Nah, he isn’t playing chess, he’s just the pigeon shitting all over the board.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 22 hours ago

He isn't playing chess because he's not the one doing the chess playing. He's a puppet. Do you think he came up with any of Project 2025?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 22 hours ago

That is my theory too. I don't think people understand how much the Republicans controlling Trump have been planning for this.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

That's exactly what this is. It's easier to loot the country when everything is burning and your corruption isn't the biggest problem.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What does he gain from Senate voting against him?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago
[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Chaos? A distraction from whatever else he's up to that night be worse? Idk.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago

Maybe, or open revolt from them to block anything he tries to do after. I'm hoping the gop splits at this point and nothing gets done for 4 years.
