Otonoke is really the standout for this season. Going through all the rest of this season, nothing really came close
Weekly ranking roundup:
- Anime Corner - Full Results - Weekly Winner: Dan Da Dan
- Reddit Karma - Weekly Winner: Dan Da Dan
- Anime Trending - Weekly Winner: Dan Da Dan
Credit to /u/Abysswatcherbel for making the chart for reddit karma and /u/Nooble5 for the Anime Trending chart.
It is a Dan Da Dan sweep across all three charts this week. The show is on a tear up against the big hitters of Re:Zero and Bleach. We will see if it can maintain this as it moves into a new arc with episode 5.
When I read the title it started playing in my head.
I picked out a handful of my favorite OPs and EDs and grouped them by shows that I am watching vs. shows that I am not watching. I also threw in a couple random mentions at the end for fun. These are in no particular order.
From shows I am watching
- Dan Da Dan OP - Otonoke - Such a great OP. If you haven't been watching Dan Da Dan, you should at least check out Creepy Nuts' latest hit after their Mashle OP.
- Orb: On the Movements of the Earth OP - Kaijuu - This is almost definitely tainted by how much I like the show, but I have really been enjoying this OP a lot.
- Tower of God Cour 2 ED - Falling Up - Stray Kids are back for the second cour and I really like the ED. Felix's deep voice in the beginning is always a treat.
- 365 Days to the Wedding OP - Kirakira - Too sweet to handle! I also love how it ends with the facade literally falling down around them.
From shows I am not watching
- Touhai OP - Gambling Hall - Masayoshi Ooishi never misses. Another really fun song from him for this show about...Mahjong, presumably? Seriously though, all of his stuff is excellent, even if the show isn't.
- Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister ED - Kimi ni Koi wo Musunde - Hard to put my finger on what I like about this ED, but I have been vibing with it since I listened to it this past week for this post.
- Maou 2099 OP - Hollow - The song starts out nice and subdued in order to build up a to a really nice and hype chorus.
- Mecha-ude OP - VORTEX - The song is fun and the visuals look super fun. Is this seriously this studio's first ever project? Looks nice and polished.
- The Most Notorious "Talker" Runs the World's Greatest Clan ED - Liberation - The visuals might not be much to write home about, but I love the kind of creepy atmosphere of this song.
Honorable Mentions
- Thirstiest - (Probably NSFW) - Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? ED - Hydrate - In a year in which JC Staff has taken on so, so many shows, they always seem to dedicate a huge portion of their effort to Danmachi. And it shows...
- Most Unique Visuals - You are Ms. Servant OP - Otozure - Just a carousel of different visual styles. You never know what is coming next.
- Now That's What I Call Eurobeat! - MF Ghost OP - Rock Me Kiss Me - Eurobeat is pretty much the only thing I know about MF Ghost other than that it is about racing.
- Banana? - Bananya: Around the World ED - Across Universe - Banana.
Tower of God Cour 2 ED - Falling Up - Stray Kids are back for the second cour and I really like the ED. Felix's deep voice in the beginning is always a treat.
That's cool, was really missing them in the first cour.
I mean, it doesn't make the rest of this season any better, but it is still appreciated. It's a nice little cap on the end of each episode. The OP is fine, but I like the ED way more.
I assume that means the second cour does not get better? I'm not up to date right now but the first cour was sort of uninteresting.
Disclaimer: I haven't watch the most recent episode yet. However, the second cour has been similar to the first. The main difference is that they are setting up the Workshop Battle. Something that I have heard source readers talk about and is apparently a quite large arc in the story. However, it is still in the setup phase where I am at in the cour, so it hasn't been the most engaging yet.
@[email protected] might be able to provide an alternative take, but the two of us are the only ones really active in the discussion threads.
Honestly, I haven't read up to this point in ToG. The Workshop-long-arc thing I just picked up from hearsay.
As I mentioned in this week's MF Ghost episode thread, we got a new Eurobeat track this episode: Go Wild by Dusty
Just binged season 1 of Attack on Titan.
IMO it is overrated.
- Besides the scenes where they are swinging around with their mobility devices, the animation is completely a slideshow.
- There's way too much narration and exposition.
- The scriptwriter / original writer tried to make the characters sound cool, but they just ended up with stupid dialogue.
- The recaps are as long as the ones in Undead Unluck, taking up close to 10% of each episode's runtime.
Thankfully, the story and world-building is good, which is not surprising considering it is Gundam but with meat robots.
So I'm going to give it a 8 / 10
Also, now that I watched AoT, Kaiju No. 8 feels like a dumbed-down knock-off.
S1 is the weakest of the bunch imo. I had the same thoughts initially. Then season 2 started and it just became infinitely better for me.
Also, now that I watched AoT, Kaiju No. 8 feels like a dumbed-down knock-off.
Yeah, it absolutely is.
From the anime I'm watching, the only OP and ED that really stand out are the ones from Dandadan. The other ones are fine.
And honestly, that kinda sums up this season in so far in general for me. There are some I'm enjoying a fair amount, but not much that stands out. Even Re:Zero I'm not enjoying as much as I'd have hoped. Maybe I'm in a bit of a slump or I'm watching the wrong things.
Some seasons are like that. I have also had seasons where irl stuff caused me to not really get into a show that I later enjoyed a lot. We don't watch this stuff in a vacuum and stuff going on in the rest of our life colors how we receive something. There are decades of anime or even non-anime stuff out there to explore. I have mentioned elsewhere that I kind of have a list of shows/manga that I know I am probably going to like, but haven't watched/read yet, that I can turn to if I need something like a palate cleanser.
I have a question. Are there any communities where i can watch anime webm/mp4 - short anime fanmade videos (for example) +AMV +otoMAD? What is marked as "clip" in r/anime is not exactly what i mean. I know there are 4chan thread where some people post that kind of videos, but too few of them
And why AMV and genral anime videos are not so widespread in Reddit and lemmy? r/amv is not really popular and the videos that i found, for example in r/bocchitherock, were have maybe 10-70 upvotes. Just because youtube and animemusicvideos.org or animenews exist?
If you find/make one I would be interested in it.
You will be the first person I tell about creating such community.
The short answer to your first paragraph is that I don't know of any communities for sharing short-form edited clips like that. A silly one like that might not be out of place somewhere like [email protected].
As for AMV, sakuga compilations, and other general videos, they would be welcome in this community, we just haven't had many people submitting them. Occasionally people submit videos of popular reviewers doing a seasonal rundown (e.g. Gigguk's in a Nutshell videos). I also occasionally post 1-2 minute clips from shows (unedited). If we started to have a flood of video posts, then I might have to make rules about it, but it hasn't been an issue yet.
Thank you for answer. I have been planning to create a community on this topic for a long time. Maybe I will do it soon, when I figure out how it should look like... and find enough sources for it. Thanks again
