/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

Fun will now commence.

Don't get me wrong ... I love all the memes you've been creating ... they send me down endless rabbit holes to read about Trek related content all day long .. it's beautiful.

I go to Memory Alpha all the time ... first time I've heard of ex-astris-scientia.org ... thanks!

I've always loved Trek but I've never really found a circle of friends in my life who felt the same way. c/tenforward has become my favourite place on the internet these days.

Thanks to you and thanks to everyone for being here

I'm just glad people are participating in our community.

Careful with Ex Astris Scientia. It is absolutely a time suck.

you're threatening me with a good time?

Back in my day, we used the original Memory Alpha:

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

and if you want a browsing experience that doesn't s*ck @ss, try adding "anti" in front of the fandom domain:

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

TBH, that looks worse to me. Are you on mobile? I usually use a desktop and memory-alpha works just fine. I am using Firefox with an adblocker, that might help.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

yes mobile, no adblocker, so that's the quickest solution for me to avoid auto playing video ads all over the place

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Fair enough. I avoid mobile browsing as much as possible because of things like that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

yeah between financial gain incentive and cookie consent popups, it's getting difficult out there! in any case thank you for your feedback, fellow Star Trek meme enjoyer!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

You guys don't use reader mode?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Linking to ex astris scientia with no safe guards? Around here that is more dangerous than a link to tvtropes.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

I'm not saying I work for them, but I'm not saying I don't get a paycheck every time I direct a Lemmy user there.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

Every meme inches me closer to the idea of subscribing to Paramount+ so I can watch/rewatch Star Trek shows to better understand these memes. DS9 and Voyager especially.

Bastards. 😒 🤣

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 weeks ago

I kept subscribed to netflix for at least a year or two just so I could rewatch oldtrek (they are on netflix in germany).

I then decided I should just make a personal library instead and save all that money

Yaknow, . . . my brother Rom may be an idiot but he knows where to get the isolinear rods so you can watch all those for free. Of course my services in this matter would still need compensation. Not much, just a few strips of latinum.

I'm an old fart with DirecTV, and Channel 20 (MeTV) airs DS9, TNG, Voyager, Original Recipe, and Enterprise into the night, every night. I'm not all caught up yet but I'm getting more of the memes!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Personally, I've watched some Trek when I was younger and loved it ... but it was only about the 2000s that I rewatched all of TNG, later watched all of Voyager ... and now I'm in the middle of watching DS9 ... and my wife and I are slowly working our way through The Original Series (it's the only Trek she'll watch) ... and even with all that I've watched, I still feel like I don't know as much as most hard core Trek fans

Someone has calculated how many hours it would take to watch every Trek movie and series ... it's a month of non stop Trek! ...

Every series and movie combined totals 837.5 hours, meaning it will take 34.9 days to watch them all uninterrupted.

https://www.cbr.com/star-trek-every-tv-episode-movie/

... as much as I've watched, I think I'm probably at about 6-7 days of Trek so far ... some hard core fans have seen all of it ... multiple times!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Imposter syndrome!

The right amount of Trek is as much Trek as you are comfortable with! I haven't seen all the series either.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

.... or .... there is never enough Trek

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

It can be two things.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

Ha! Nice. Once I get through Supernatural, I’ll be in need of another show to watch. I have plenty of time when my kids are at their mother’s…, so I feel confident I could catch up quickly. 😁

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You could sail the high seas for a day or two and you would be able to download all shows and movies on your HD, after that just dispose of the ship.

You would have to live traveling the ocean though, if you also want to keep up with the current shows.

Or wait until a good chunk of shows are done or have enough seasons, so that a quick sailing would bring home a good bounty.

I myself have never sailed or written the comment you just finished reading.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Can also just buy the blu-rays/DVDs. I think everything except Voyager and DS9 is available on Blu-ray, with those two only having DVD releases.

my source of Star Trek information : watching random episodes on BBC2 over 20 years ago.

my wife started listeing to a podcast about TNG,and she's starting to go through the episodes one by one. by the end of it, despite it forming a bigger part of my identity, she's going to know more about star trek than me

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Which podcast is she listening to?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

IDK, it has the old Captain JLP song as the intro music

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

The greatest generation

That was one of the more disturbing things to come out of ENT. Also, this is correct.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, quite a journey from “Faith of the Heart” and Phlox’s cheerful disposition to this episode

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

The key is to have joy in your heart. So you can enjoy anything, even if you don't understand any of it. I have only seen The Orville, DISCO, SNW, and Lower Decks. The crews of Voyager and DS9 seem like lunatics based on what I've seen of them here. I appreciate that. Now, as Janeway famously says "Where is the damn coffee?"

My favourite character is angry coffee lady.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

That would be a great thread starter ....

Trek characters but you don't know their name

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I started watching Star Trek solely because of the memes here, and it turned out that I really liked it... and then my wife joined me after just a few episodes of TOS. Turns out we both really like it and now have a plethora of great sci-fi to watch together

We've watched TOS, TNG, and now we're about halfway through season 1 of Voyager. Plus several movies in-between. The memes converted us lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

I had watched a bunch of shows years ago but stopped mostly because I didn't have anyone around to talk to about it all. My wife is partial to it but will only watch TOS because it's nostalgic for her.

But it was mostly being here in communities like this, especially here in c/tenforward that got me back to watching it all again. I had always wanted to watch DS9 but never had the enthusiasm ... but after being here for a year, I started watching it and now I'm part way through season four.

Great to hear your story and I wish you and your wife to 'Live long and prosper'
