You only need one day to be a dictator. After that, you are automatically a dictator.

This is probably what he is projecting, when he is talking about 'the last election we ever have'.

[–] [email protected] 67 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's no probably about it. People like him don't give up power once they have it.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He also needs to stay in the White House to stay out of the big house (prison). The grifting he can do while he sells the US for parts is just a bonus for him.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He's never going to prison. If it actually ever comes to that, he'll flee the country to Russia or Saudi Arabia.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I want him to live to be 150. Muttering to himself in a crappy nursing home, his grandkids never come visit, rotting in obscurity.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Let’s say he was dictator for one day only, just as a fun thought experiment.

That is also awful

Imagine someone walking into your house and saying, “I’m only going to ignore the law for 15 minutes while I’m here tonight.” Sorry, what the absolute fuck. Even if they kept their word that’s a monstrous thing to say, what the fuck are you going to do for those 15 minutes?!

That’s when you kick that fucker out of your house. So America, let’s kick that fucker out of this house.

Trump: Sometimes You Have to Flush Twice

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago

he literally tried it once already, we don't really need to speculate if he'd go for it

[–] [email protected] 112 points 1 month ago (1 children)

1776-2016 the US fought against that crap and then we just decided it was all ok because of meme culture or some nonsense.

[–] [email protected] 64 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I mean, we at least said we were against it. Slavery, the trail of tears, the Chinese exclusion act, and internment camps, as well as meddling in other countries’ elections, drone strikes, and border camps aren’t exactly pro-democracy, let alone gerrymandering and voter suppression that have been prevalent in poor and minority communities since they were first allowed to vote. I wish we’d been democratic from the start, but I think MAGAers are just continuing an American pastime.

[–] [email protected] 62 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's long enough to declare himself dictator for life and democrats illegal.

Everybody voting for him is consciously a traitor, which is the part that really sucks because even if captain cheese whiz loses, 25% of americans are still the same backstabbing pieces of shit.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Sean, I only want to be a dictator for one day, and I’m going to close the borders and drill, baby drill. But after that, I never want to be a dictator.

The thing with Trump is there's a chance he actually believes a) this is a reasonable take, and b) he'd be able to accomplish these goals in one day.

[–] [email protected] 60 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I really don't get how that doesn't immediately disqualify him for any public office.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Even at least in the court of public opinion…

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 month ago

Because republicans are traitors to this country. They wish to overthrow democracy and install a Christian dictatorship that enforces their will on everyone.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

His base doesn't actually care what he says. Somehow, he convinced them he's a damn genius when he can't string a sentence together.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Mixed in-between the word vomit, he validates their hate. Unfortunately their lives are so miserable and empty, being told it's okay to hate, is more important to them than anything else.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I say we give him a chance. It'll be like all those people that take one hit of meth and set the pipe down and say 'ya, this isn't really hitting the spot for me'.

/s if I didn't slather it on hard enough

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I do wonder, though, what they'd do when

crops are left rotting in fields and houses and buildings aren't rebuilt after disasters because all undocumented immigrants have been reported;

after LGBT+ folks hide themselves and "fit in" for safety like it's the 1950s;

when there are masses of unemployed young people born after abortion and contraception are outlawed living in a nation unequipped to handle them;

after the education and environmental protection systems cease to exist and the country falls behind in every metric of a developed nation from an absence of knowledge pools and poison in everything.

What will they do after creating an environment that fosters stability, innovation, and a thriving society like we saw in the mid-2010's Middle East. It sure sounds like a great and prosperous future, doesn't it. Right?...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

It's pretty hilarious that Republicans want to get rid of undocumented immigrants when our food and shelter are literally dependent on them. Apparently food and shelter are not that important.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

In order:

Use prisoners to do the labor

Crackdowns, secret police, and full on lavender scare shit

Drive them to crime then imprison them to use for labor

Why would they care? They’re planning to be in charge

Fascists do nothing but destroy their homes and neighbors. They will make everyone miserable and their plans will suck, but so long as they can stay angry, indignant, and targeting someone they don’t care that they just got their country turned to rubble.

Historically, dictators go hand in hand with peaceful transfers of power after their term is done!

I want to be a dictator for one day.

I want to be a dictator tomorrow too.

I also want to be a dictator the day after tomorrow.

I supposed these statements may be true every day.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

He only really wants to be a dictator for a single nanosecond. But that desire renews itself each nanosecond.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

If you give a mouse a cookie..

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

This is the reality with dementia. When a brain loses the ability to encode new memories, every day is the same day.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Trump wants to have a Purge so badly.

But he doesn’t want to participate, and I think he wouldn’t even really watch it from a bunker. Would probably find the violence grotesque and boring.

However, imagine the TV ratings of such an event that he made happen! That’s what really gets this guy hard.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Not a Purge, a Kristallnacht. But with a wider range of victims than the original. The difference is, in a Kristallnacht, the police aren't just standing down, or even rampaging as individuals, they're specifically instructed to attack the chosen victim groups.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

Yeah “I only want to be a dictator until everyone who ever called me or will call me a dictator is killed and then I’m just president and commander in chief and supreme justice and speaker of the house and chairman, and general secretary and…”

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"And for my first official act as dictator, I hereby abolish night."

Conservatism is a plague of oppression. It always has been. This plague is long overdue for a cure.

Voting is a good start, but real action will be needed to rid ourselves of this infestation.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

I guess you could say the GOP is a threat to our democracy. I think it is time for us to remove the electoral college and grant DC statehood. A Republican will never hold the White House again until they appeal to the majority of Americans.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

After he loses, in the yugest way possible, let's give him a participation 'trophy' in the form of a lengthy 'shady vacation' in a nice secure place away from responsibilities.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

That is some serious optimism.

When polls show the Democrats way ahead we still lose. Polls are practically tied and we're even losing ground in important places because of our literal obsession with giving Bloodthirsty Bibi whatever the fuck he wants unconditionally...

That's not even to mention the ratfucking planned to occur in some swing states to make the vote counting stop until SCOTUS pulls another Bush v Gore.... The smaller red counties are done earlier since they are smaller they get done first, Trump shows a lead, then they "find irregularities" with the larger majority Democrat districts and drag that out by hand counting until the SCOTUS says "pencils down, the election is over you need to stop now!"

I'm generally a pessimistic person but I feel like this is almost a guaranteed Trump win... Still vote of course, just be ready to either storm the supreme court or get used to the idea that we're going to learn what it's like to be in a dictatorship.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

yugest

Wow, yuge seems like so long ago

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

He only wants to be a dictator for a day, because after that his fascist government will refer to him as "Dear Leader" and all dissent will be met with force.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

He only wants to be a dictator for a day because he's incapable of thinking more than one day at a time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

What if… this guy is just trying really hard to throw the election now but [🎶 suspenseful music 🎶] it doesn’t work?

Sigh.

[–] [email protected] -5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fortunately, we’re well prepared to deal with dictators.

Do it, you demented rapist clown. Put on the military uniform and suspend the Constitution. Do it. Hell, do it now, you know your idiot followers don’t need no steenking election.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

In a dark little corner of my imagination, I kinda want to see how many of his remaining base would actually try it. J6 scooped up a ton of radical nut-bars. How many more could there be?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

He's gaining ground with incels - angry young men, many armed with guns, who grew up in a toxic political landscape and think they have nothing to lose.
