Berlin police have confirmed that a 13-year-old was detained "on suspicion of insult," which is a criminal offence under German law.

Dawg....

Basically the cop felt like teaching that kid a lesson.. Nothing will ever come from this, its just overreach.

German here. This is 99% sure fake news. German police is only able to even touch kids at that age to take them back to their parents. Kids up to 14 are executively immune from the law. The source is also kind of iffy. The right to protest is also enshrined in German law. As long as they are not violent they can protest all day long.

also german here. the demo i recently went to was cut short by police for no apparent reason.

also many others are being blocked by the cops before they get to happen.

this country is also raiding organizers homes and recently banned a group called "palästina solidarität duisburg" which organized protests as well.

and its all happening in the name of what they call "staatsräson" or some vague ideas of chants like "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free" being antisemitic.

lastly, the idea that cops give a shit abt following the law is ridiculous if u ask me

I hate that so few people do not get that anti zionism is not anti semitic, fucking all or nothing thinking, makes me angry 😤

Like, as if i’m not allowed to hate war fanatics just because they happen to be jews?!

Fuck all religion.

What you're saying is absolute horseshit.

They banned many many protests in Germany (before they happened, at the permit phase). The excuse the authorities give is usually vague security concerns, and they always argue that something antisemitic or glorifying violence might be said. And they explictly define any fundamental critique of Israel as antisemitism and any positive mention or symbol of any armed resistance group as glorifying violence, but only for pro-Palestinian groups. You can show support for the IDF as much as you like, in fact providing not just symbolic support, but support in the form of actual lethal weapons is facilitated at the highest levels of the state. That is legal and encouraged. Saying "Palestine will be free." gets you detained.

At a demo some weeks ago in Berlin I definitely saw them chasing a kid that was 12 or younger, but luckily he was swift and disappeared into the crowd that was starting to surround and corner the police after they charged the crowd from the side into an otherwise completely relaxed demo. Obviously, the kid was arab.

Police in Germany is composed of pigs as much as any other police force.

Immigrant who lives in Germany here. This post is a bunch of lies. On this topic there are a lot of politically motivated astroturfers who take over whole comment sections to push their false narratives.

Which? The one to which you replied or the grandparent / original claim?

You'd think that Germany would want to be on the right side of history this time.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think the west made up a narrative about postwar Germany and that narrative is now being exposed.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

How did west Germany denazify so quickly after WWII?

They didn't.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Na, they know genocide when they see it and don't waste the opportunity to help.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Thats like the oppisite of the issue here.

Remembrance is so deeply ingrained into our society, that a lot of people in power are struggling to even criticise Israel.

Add to that highly emotionally charged discourse and frustration in the general public at these protests plus cops being cops, jumping at an opportunity to bash lefties and you get this bullshit.

They should remember the genocide properly and not want to repeat it upon any ethnic group. Unfortunately, all they remember is that Jews were involved. I guess the concept of "genocide" is a little too complicated for a Nazi to recognise.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They didn't realize the problem with the holocaust was the genocide bit, instead of the Jewish part. That's the only explanation for this behavior: they keep talking about their mistake, but obviously learned the wrong lesson.

This! Exactly this! This thinking hurts my brain! Let me be against war without being called a nazi! Like WTF??

I am a fucking hippy, not a nazi!

First of all, the actions of a state aren’t the actions of the people who live in a country - some may agree with those actions, but others still disagree. And even among those who agree, it’s hard to know whether they would still agree if they weren’t subjected to the state/media propaganda of their country.

This problem, like so many others, is a systemic one, not an individual one. If you’re looking for people to blame, its the wealthy elite.
