Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Great program. Needs better pay and more funding. A pathway for future federal service and job experience for young adults.

I assume programs like this, that we need to grow and to give more funding, would be eliminated depending on the results of this election.

Also since the article kept giving me popups about registering for $1, I archived it here: https://archive.ph/MM8WG

How about just tax the hell out of billionaires and mega millionaires .... force them to make less money on environmentally destructive businesses, it would force them to invest less on oil companies and then use all that money to fund ways to deal with the climate crisis.

By not doing so, anything else is basically just fighting a raging house fire with a squirt gun.

But profits

We're gonna need a really big squirt gun!

Don’t . . . don’t carry them like that, you’ll bend - look, the blade has to be straight or it’s a serious hazard, what are you . . . Are these kids from LA or something, aren’t there any supervisors?

Hopefully they were told to pose like that for the picture

Yes, bar, sorry. That.

Hopefully they're gonna cut down some lumber to build gallows or a guillotine so we can really get to the root of this climate change problem.
