Loans were funded in the Duterte era when relations between China and the Philippines were much more friendly than they are today.

China makes its "partner"s loan slaves, also they say its mandatory to do the build process by chinese too, for very expensive, and low quality. We see this in hungary.

Stop repeating the propaganda that is thinly veiled European projection of their own guilt onto its enemies.

The Atlantic is a deeply imperial publication and even its analysis contradicts the bullshit that China's loans are predatory.

The debt slavery is a part of the European project. Every loan the Europeans give is a trap. Hell, even when they give money away for free it's a trap - for every dollar given to African countries in aid, 24 are extracted through predatory pricing, predatory loans, mandatory contracts, etc.

Source for this?

I'll make sure to get the British or Americans to build it instead.

How much are HS2 and CAHSR expected to cost, again? How many decades of delays?

started discussions with other Asian countries for alternative financing deals.

The only other Asian countries with the tech and the money to do HSR are Japan and maybe Occupied Korea. Neither of those are exactly flush with cash at the moment. I also doubt either of them would be able to do it at the same price as China is offering either.

They are both flush with cash, it's just concentrated in the hands of their ruling class.

Not a surprise considering China has been pissing off its neighbors by stealing territory around the south China Sea and they pretty much moved to the coast of the Philippines with that.

This is interesting.

Good. China treats their citizens like shit. It's not okay.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 10 months ago

Yeah, how dare the CPC deny 800 million Chinese people the right to wallow in poverty?!

[–] [email protected] 13 points 10 months ago

They simultaneously treat their citizens like shit but also have one of the best public infrastructure in the world, including 2/3 of the entire network of HSR. Something does not add up.
