My disabled friend just needs to make like $20 a day to afford what she needs.

I know there are a ton of like "fill out surveys to ear money" "play games to earn money" "Do this little task" but all the ones I've found give like... $1 an hour.

I know fiverr is an option, but I dunno if that is consistent enough when she needs to get moving.

Any websites that would let her sidegig when she feels up to it and isn't trash pay?

A couple of years ago I was using a transcription service, though that may be of less help nowadays due to AI transcription. Pay was crap, but it was better than nothing for me at the time. The service I was working with seems to have shut down, but you might try https://www.transcribeme.com/freelancers/

[–] [email protected] 44 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Maybe try Amazon’s mechanical Turk? Not sure what the payout is like, but might be enough

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I used it years ago and it didn't pay super great, I'll have her check though and see what it's like now.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I hear there are some more complex tasks with better payout, but never used it myself

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

There was a subreddit .. something like "hits worth turking for" or something like that??

"worth turking for" was part of its name, iirc..

There might be other communities identifying higher-paying items, perhaps a Lemmy devoted to that?

Perplexity may be able to find something of the sort..

just hoping that their right-answer finds them, is all!

Is it $20 before or after tax? Can she afford to put some money in it to start with? Is she good at something unique or special?

If she has the energy, she could pick up streaming or YouTube video.. There seems to be some interest at how people with disabilities live and manage everyday hurdles but also their thoughts on life in general!

Many people with disabilities also can make some money selling art or other services that they might be good at.

Just consider that making money may in some countries substract from the financial support already offered by whatever country you may be in

[–] [email protected] 71 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Please note that every day thousands of people try to start with streaming/YouTube/TikTok etc. and almost all of them fail. It's not impossible to make money, but it super hard and most people never make anything. I would never recommend anybody do it with the intent or expectation to make any money. Just do it for the fun of it and if you happen to make some money, great!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Will she get taxed for such a low income?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

$20 a day is $7200 a year; probably not.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago

But if she's on disability pay, it might get cut by that amount.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

All income is required to be reported and taxed.

If you are below a certain threshold annually you will get that tax refunded.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

I believe you typically get the money withheld, and if when you file are determined not to have any tax liability, you get a refund between what you paid and what you owe. That's just like anyone else, but that second number happens to be zero. I swear there's an option in a W4 that you had/expect to have your tax liability be zero as well, but of course if you turn out to be wrong you're in for a world of hurt

This was posted on the site which will not be named quite some time ago, but I figured it might be helpful here. https://remotists.com/

Seems like it might fit the situation. Best of luck to your friend!

Ikea is hiring people for it's Robolox branch. But generally Chat moderation(aka being a fake chat partner in the more, well, infamous partner seeking platforms) is an option, same goes for normal phone support/callcenter work.

Fiverr is an idea, there are similar jobs as well.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

10 people will be hired for Ikea grand total from the entire world fyi

There are a few good freelance transcription gigs online. I did rev.com in high-school and it was really easy. You basically just listen to an audio clip and type out what it's saying. More difficult clips pay more but I think I was able to get something like 12-14 an hour doing it.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago

If she's native or fluent in English, Cambly is a good choice for teaching online. The pay isn't that good but it's something, $10.20 an hour of talk time, or $12 for group classes (which are actually easier). Seems like they've had a lot of applicants recently but they are still accepting people, it may just take a while.

My referral link: https://www.cambly.com/invite/ADAM3261?st=060524&sc=4 Generic link: https://www.cambly.com/tutor/signup?lang=en

She can reach out to me if she wants some help with getting started teaching online, I've been doing it for years.

Search job sites for “search quality rater.” Should be a number of postings for fully remote, part-time, ~$15/hr work. Takes a few weeks to go through the qualifying process, but it’s mostly common sense stuff. Just requires the time commitment - projects will probably want 10-20 hours a week.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Ironically there will be people on OnlyFans likely willing to pay her money daily to see her.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 5 months ago

It's definitely not for everyone, but I've met a small number of disabled people who do exactly this, for similar reasons.

Wouldn't offer it as a suggestion though, kinda feel like people have to come to that decision on their own.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

It is enough to see a foot (should be a good looking foot ofc) and hear her voice. Guys are crazy enough out there. She can then sell her used socks too.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 5 months ago

I'd say apply some of their specific skills instead of competing at unskilled (and low-pay) labor. Maybe draw illustrations or pictures. Computer programming. Cut videos for some Youtuber...

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Where though

[–] [email protected] 18 points 5 months ago

sidegig when you want and isn't trash pay

If such a thing existed, everyone would be doing it already.

I'd tell her to research some passive income side hustles on YouTube and do a few of them at once. It's hard to get started, but once you get the ball rolling it can add up to be a few bucks.

It all depends on how much time / effort she can spend on them. You get out what you put in.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

best option is some sort of support agent work which allows remote, but you need steady hours.

if she really can't hold steady hours for whatever reason then fiverr is the next best option. or look up things like gaming where you can sell in-game currency or resources for money

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Any links for the agent work? Does it matter where you're from?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If she can draw, she can maybe do comissions.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

I've used Preply before to tutor if she feels confident in a language or subject. She can set her own price as well.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What are her qualifications?

If she has a degree in computer science, DataAnnotation will pay $30-40 an hour to train their coding AI.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Maybe it's just me, but they have only ever had a couple of jobs available to actually work, and they are temporary.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If she is fluent in English then there are some legit options (as in, will comply with minimum wage laws).

There are tech "consulting"/talent agencies which offer gig work where you help assess AI, i.e. rate and correct LLM responses, correct road signs etc.

There are also some foreign news stations which run English programs, but pay gig workers to rate/correct their pronunciation.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

The LLM training gigs exist but they are way unreliable; you're a contractor with 0 guarantee of work, and when there is work it's a lump of tasks that get assigned on a first come, first serve basis. You weren't awake and monitoring your email at 3pm? Well you might have just lost your chance to work that week because it will be taken by other by the time you wake up.

Do it for extra income, but be aware many are being exploited to train those models.

Source: I got hired by one of those 27/h job posts in LinkedIn.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

If leapforce is still a thing, she can do data entry for tuning Google search results!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Adding a bit to the porn angle, there are options that don't require exposing herself. There's people that get around creating PMV and HMV (porn/hentai music videos) and JOI variations, so that's basically video editing skills.

If she's ok with only "showing off" her voice, she could try some amateur VA work. That might require some initial cash setup in the form of a decent mic and some soundproofing, she'd also need to do a number of gigs "for free" as a demonstration to anyone who decides to hire her.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Where could she find porn VA work?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

On xitter mostly and maybe instagram or tiktok. The former is much more lax with adult stuff, but the latter two are better for discoverability.

As for the content, it could be for either 2D or 3D animation, furry or not.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 5 months ago

online gambling

[–] [email protected] -3 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I have no clue exactly, and forgive me if this is inappropriate, but I could imagine porn would work maybe?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Only the top 10% earns top cash.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

It was about 20$ per day, not top cash

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

Maybe just feet pics.
