We can decide to never go back to our ex and also warn others if it comes up, while still moving on with our lives. However, if we're just bringing it up out of nowhere, we're still hung up on them.

This is exactly right, I even find myself wanting to check my GME DRS subs but knowing I shouldn't and feeling bad about it and blocking it for myself until the next week when I unblock and check my subs again in shame.
