I still can't forgive that soulless writers bastards who killed off his whole family in a fire just to give him some sad vibe during one of the movie.
Generations made a few missteps. Like killing Kirk twice, for instance. Presumed dead at first, but still.
There's really only one banger TNG movie; Generations, Insurrection, and Nemesis all have pretty glaring issues.
I have a soft spot for Insurrection. Viewed as a season splitting 2-parter, it's a good story. As a film, it's a slog.
I totally get it, there are some episodes and TOS movies like that for me. Hell, for a long time I thought I was the only person on Earth who liked ENT.
I didn't love Enterprise, although when Manny Coto took over for the fourth season and just made it a big TOS tribute, it was lots of fun.
If nothing else, you have faith... FAITH OF THE HEAAARRT!

It’s quintessential Adult Contemporary— a total ear worm that gives you warm fuzzies while at the same time being obnoxiously vapid.
That's how I always felt about Insurrection. It would have made for a decent episode, but it's mediocre as a movie.
That could have been an incredible story, if the whole story was about that. But it felt like an afterthought, like they needed to create some motivation for the character that the Nexus could exploit. Apparently it was Patrick Stewart himself who suggested that plot point. On top of that you have Kirk and his horse, which seemingly has nothing to do thematically with Picard's troubles.
The Nexus concept is good, but they didn't push hard enough on it. Here's this psycho-temporal rift in space that functions like a literal heaven. It's basically the manifestation of everything the Traveler talked about: thought transcending time and space. So Picard wants to cosplay a Victorian family Christmas, and Kirk wants to be alone on a ranch? Like, what? Maybe if Kirk was there with Carol and the son he barely got a chance to know, it might have created a parallelism that Picard could relate to. There's just way too much going on, and it doesn't cohere very well.
