I use Dr. and make a point to, but only because it reminds me of a character from TV which tickles my funny bone.

That, and I tell them "Just Professor is fine, too, it makes me feel like I'm in Fire Emblem Three Houses."

The number of titles I use depends hugely on how much I like someone. More means less.
