They are exactly appropriate. When the Reverend is calling you out, you're supposed to fucking listen. These dudes are all about hierarchies and traditions until it doesnt suit them.
I think it is a big step forward that the president of an enlightened state no longer places the authority of the church above his own.
How do we reconcile that with Trump's ambassador arguing that Israel has a "biblical right" to the West Bank? There's no consistency of principle here, except for the principle of "whatever suits us".

It reconciles because they're fascists. A core tenet of the ideology is being contradictory whenever it suits you
Except he panders to the church as it suits him.
Shoving protest crowds aside so you can awkwardly take a picture with a Bible in front of a church.
Claiming Israel has a divine right to Palestinian land.
But discards the significance and teachings of the church as it suits him. Shouldn't have it both ways.
I know the priest of the church he does photo ops at outside of Mar A Lago. Trump never attends church.
Doesn't Trump get his authority directly from god though, as our god emperor?
Trump gets his power from eating obscene amounts of preservatives to ensure that he never dies... Or something.
I hope he does not.
Ngl I kinda want to throw this in the faces of the fundie branch of my extended family
