Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
- These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows. - No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

I know at least one and I think everyone should read his story: https://github.com/zloirock/core-js/blob/master/docs/2023-02-14-so-whats-next.md
Besides that tragic accident (fuck alcohol) and with all due respect: That guy has his priorities completely messed up.
The moment he got trampled on for asking for support he should have dropped that project. Into a deep, deep pit. Probably would have been hired in an instant for a lot of cash to continue to maintain it under the direction of one of the FAANGs.
I mean, yeah, he has, but it's still sad, because his library is used by half the internet and yet he can't afford a lawyer.
If it was me, I'd say "fuck it" the moment it would get in my way, but I guess I'm less of an idealist than the dude is.
Maintaining Open Source without being paid by a company to do so is terrible. I made a few Open Source projects and never will I do it again. I do contribute a fix or something every once in a while if the issue really annoys me in my usage, but I will never again take any active role in an open source project.
People take your work for free and then attack you for not doing everything they ask for, equally for free. It's just not sustainable.
Holy crap, that's sad
Yep, that dude just can't catch a break.
