It's bullshit that this is the case, but if you itemize your taxes you can deduct state taxes, including sales tax. If you're in a place like WA that puts absolutely everything on sales tax make sure to look it up by your specific zip code to account for all levels of sales tax. The Sales Tax Deduction Calculator is a pretty easy way to do it.
Note that you're probably still better off using the standard deduction unless you have some other significant source of deductions that you can itemize (mortgage/property taxes, maybe auto loan if you got a crazy expensive car, significant medical expenses).
