My wife has a huge pile of health issues and cannot go anywhere near carbs. They're super evil for diabetics, and she is losing her vision quickly and the carbs fuck with her medications.

Yeah okay, that should go without saying. If something is genuinely bad for a person for whatever reason, then of course they should avoid it.
