What is the difference between SunOS and Solaris?

Solaris uname identifies as SunOS. iirc

In vague, hand waving terms, SunOS was based on BSD, while Solaris was a shift to more of a System V flavor of Unix. And they changed the version numbering. Lots more details, but that's the gist.
