Acting is putting on a performance. Projecting another person/personality with your words, inflection, facial expression, etc. Patinkin is an incredible actor, where he got the source for a performance didn't make him "not acting".
Unless his father was killed with a sword by Sir Christopher Guest...
In which case he's an even more incredible actor.
