So, to start, a lot of HS students with aspirations of going to a university of some sort have to spend a decent amount of their last year or 2 trying to court different colleges for scholarships (most of which are colleges you’ve never heard of offering like $400 off or something) and free ride scholarships are (and this is admittedly anecdotal) unheard of in my area (suburb near major city). Should more socialist minded youth without the means to go to college find jobs? I don’t say this out of an anti-education perspective or some sort of belief that colleges are too liberal of institutions or anything, if it was free for families to send their children to school, I’d be all for it. What do yall think? And feel free to give me book suggestions or quotes from Leftists if you have any that may apply to this, specifically on the topic of the US where college costs more annually on average than any other nation.

Back in the day there were big infrastructure projects, the interstate highway system, nuclear fission reactors, USA was once a leader in rail, but now it seems USA can't build any infrastructure at all, HDI is lowering, life expectancy is not as high as most other OECD countries. Anyone know what happened to cause this?

Khrushchev, Beria, Yezhov, etc. It really feels like they didn't do much quality control, if at all. I know Stalin was, contrary to popular belief, quite trusting. Especially in regards to Bukharin and the likes. But it's not like he had the power to really kill anyone he wanted, again contrary to popular belief, even if he wanted to (at least any politburo members), so his personal views of his colleagues don't matter.

Hello everyone, I know this topic is a bit heavy and more recent in our memories but I'm having some trouble actually finding decent resources about what is actually going on and most sources I could find expect you to have some knowledge on the subject already. I've heard contradictory things and there is a lot of disinformation out there so now I will just ask directly. What happened? How did we get here?

Videos and books are also welcome!

With the way things are going and America clearly about to go fascist. I’m thinking about leaving and get a job. Is there a way to become an overseas computer science/ Engineering professor. I’m thinking about going to either Cuba, Mexico, and South Africa.

I know I asked about this sometime ago but I wanna know more though. Since I thought the replies were lacking information.

Both are useful in achieveing American political aims abroad, so getting rid of them seems like a bad choice from the perspective of the US government

It just feels so hard. People constantly complain about their material conditions, yet when someone comes to them with Marx-Engels, they immediately brush it off. They are more keen on falling to mysticism and far-right ideology, in regards to "solutions". I know you cannot convince people by debating them, you can only make yourself feel good when you "win", but otherwise you are likely only making them less likely to latch on to socialism. Still, I don't know how to approach this. How do I convince them? Do I constantly, in every conversation about how the grocery prices are too high, mention the theories of Marx? Do I just sit around until they, on their own accord, pick up Capital or even just the Manifesto?

Whaddoido?

I have not looked into any sources on what life was like for a feudal peasant. However, I've heard that peasants had more holidays and rest. I also believe the life of a peasant was more communal and satisfactory with religion being a central feature. This, to me, is a stark contrast to the life of the modern proletariat in the Global North who often lives for work, is more and more isolated, and maybe gets only a month off work. Yes, we have higher life expectancy now (quantity) but I cant help but think that peasants had a better quality of life. Please educate me on this topic and provide some sources to look at. Thank you! 🙏

From what I've read of the review of the 'Affirmative Action Empire: 1923-1939' by Terry Martin:

Martin significantly advances our understanding of the early, formative years of Soviet nationality policy, providing a subtle and lucid reconstruction of its unique conceptual underpinnings and its stormy evolution. Contrary to earlier Bolshevik mantras, Lenin and his partner in nationality policy, Stalin, committed the {union} by 1923 to developing non Russian languages, elites, territorial units, and cultural forms-all at the expense of Russian nationhood and culture. Hence the Soviet Union became, in Martin's odd phrase, the first multiethnic "affirmative-action empire."

That's good, but then there's this next part

Then, in the period of the Great Terror (1933-38), the experiment ended. Russian nationality and culture were revived, and "bourgeois nationalism" replaced "great-Russian chauvinism" in opprobrium

Why did that happen in such a manner?

My parents had Copaganda The Show on in the room, and a Chinese character talked about how her parents were doctors during the cultural revolution, but were accused of using bourgeois science and were sentenced to reeducation. I don't know enough about the cultural revolution to know anything about that, so I googled. Naturally I found myself on Wikipedia (blech) where they talked about a variety of "bourgeois pseudoscience" ranging from phrenology and eugenics to psychology and sociology. These latter two were specific to the PRC. Of course I know better than to automatically believe NATOpedia, especially on topics like these, but I don't know any better places to look for accurate information, particularly in English. So I have a few questions.

  1. Where can I go to find these answers? I am aware of ProleWiki, but a lot of the pages I've seen have been more summary and less in-depth talks about these things.

  2. Is psychology and potentially psychiatry still considered bourgeois science? I have a variety of psychiatric disorders, and I would be upset if my communist utopia did not see fit to help me deal with them. I have heard of anti-psychiatry, and some random dude claiming it is popular on the left? Not jumping to believe them, but instead asking people who have a better chance of actually knowing.

  3. Is there any truth that the PRC did take these actions? Do they still? If I were to move to China, would I be unable to get psychiatric meds?

Die Linke which is the most Left-Wing party and is currently below 5% in the polls. Especially after the split with BSW which is very socially Right-Wing and Conservative. (Also Die Linke is also very Pro-Israel.) In France the Left coalition got the most seats (They did not get the majority or got in power but they still did very well in the elections.) And in most other European countries the Communist Party (Despite many of them being eurocom/revisionist (KKE/PCE/PCF being specifically)) has done major success in their [insert] country but in Germany the DKP is just a fringe minor party.

Dunno how many Brits/people living in UK are on here but looking to join a party. Was briefly part of RFB before that collapsed. I know the others have issues but just want to join the one that's the most workable. I'm considering either CPB or RCG cause they seem the most serious.

Does anyone here have experiences or opinions on either or any of the other British parties? Obvs. only interested in ML parties.

We are talking in class about the Revolution so I got to wondering is there any books written about the revolution that's Marxist?

I know it happened in China but there's so many conflicting answers I don't know what's right, but I keep hearing it was bad. Why would anyone in China want to perform the Great Leap Forward if it was bad?

Hey comrades,

As we all know we need to practice good security culture. For activism online this ofc means doing everything possible related to your activism on Linux Tails. If you don't know it please take a look at it https://tails.net/.

Disclaimer, mails shouldn't be used for secure communication. Talking in person should be used. Since everything runs over Mail it is essential to be able to create email Accounts on your Tails system and keep it on there. Protonmail works in the past, but it has 2 large issues:

  • The CEO has weird political affiliations, thus this bekomes more shady
  • You cant add the mail account to Thunderbird. This is pretty important for efficient use within tails.

Alternatives are ofc cock.li (very dogy and cringy) and riseup. I don't really trust cock.li and it lacks seriousness, and riseup needs invitations. Then there is tutamail but I couldn't create the mail account through tor.

Are there some good mail providers that can be used?

I heard about a dock workers' strike in USA where port workers complained about automation, but in China, ports are already almost completely automated, but what happened to the dock workers?
